Thanks adamsmith, I appreciate the thinking aloud. I'll respond in a similar vein. I do understand that score and book citations look alike (and like chapters if in an anthology). From a musicological user standpoint, however, it's also having an …

Sorry for the delay in reporting back. I have consulted with two music librarians, and we came up with the following to create a musicScore item type. Here is a first round of suggestions, subject to improvements of course. (Apologies for any weird…

Excellent! That solves it then -- I'll just copy over everything to/from the two libraries and then do the awesome duplicate detection features on both the group library and my library. Small thing, but that right click helps a lot! Thank you!
-
Thank you, Dan. I did do some small scale trials, and because I did not previously transfer them from my library to the group library (in some cases it was from another account, in some cases someone else did it), then I ended up with duplicates. …

Thank you, confirmed. Will report back on this thread (unless I hear otherwise).

@adamsmith: thanks, and I've signed up and can now edit (made a tiny edit just to check). I'm a musicologist, and I'm going to work with a music librarian and, hopefully, a tech person and/or cataloger in our library in order to get this fully…

@ajlyon: What new materials / info would be useful to help with the "music score" type addition? I checked out the sites https://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/wiki/MusicScoreType and https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/661 and both of them s…

Thank you adamsmith. That's helpful to understand. I didn't want to "complain" but I had just come across that example and want to share the reasoning for continuing to suggest it. Thanks! Aaron

Hi All, I've posted here before on this issue -- the need for a "musical score" item type -- but I've come across what I think is an excellent example of why we need it. Not least are the facts that WorldCat uses it, and it's a standard part o…

I've got an unusual variant of the original problem: I can use option in Mac and control in XP, but when I run Standalone in XP on my Mac -- nothing works! I've tried multiple combinations, and using an external windows keyboard and the internal Mac…

Okay, sorry for the delay, and I hope this info is still useful. Music catalogers said that there are two unique items for musical scores, and they gave me MARC field numbers for them: 028 = publisher numbers and plate numbers 024 = ISMN # (lik…

I'm pleased (no ecstatic!) to report that my work computer on the campus network synced for the first time in months today. And it did it in less than 30 minutes (not sure of the exact time because I just assumed it'd keep going and didn't watch!).…

My librarian friend is not a cataloger, so she's getting in touch with someone who's got better details. Here are a few examples from one the main journals in musicology, the Journal of the American Musicological Society: Igor Stravinsky, …

Another field, for opera "musical scores" would be "librettist" (so instead of author, we'd need "composer" and "librettist" to be added). That makes me realize that also "lyricist" or "words by" or "text by" might make sense too.

Thanks for the quick response, Dan. I've not restarted Ff or done anything -- it's still queued, still spinning, still saying "Getting updated data..." I'll be in the office for another 30 minutes, but I can leave the computer on over night i…

Okay, I'm a musicologist but not a librarian (I'll contact a librarian for input), but here's the big difference: a music score is basically a book, for item type, but instead of "author" there needs to be a "composer" field. The other features of t…

Dan, Unfortunately, the upgrade seems not to have helped. My network is probably blocking something that must be opened -- and I learned that they did a network upgrade in the fall (which also blocked my ethernet printing and some other network…

Understood, so I'll wait. I've reconfigured my work computer to connect via the unsecured wireless network, logged in as a guest. I still cannot sync; it's been running for a bout three hours now, with no change. (Via that same network, I was…

Okay, now been spinning for over four hours. Should I wait for the upgrade or troubleshoot? Thanks.
-
Thank you, Dan. I'm happy to be patient with the new rollout -- I didn't catch that when I decided I'd troubleshoot this now, sorry! Anyway, I'll wait and see what happens. This would be the second "Empty..." message today. I'm able to let it go …

Okay, 2 hours later and still spinning with the message "Getting updated data...".

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. My computer has crashed a few times (unrelated stuff -- power problems), and that may have been part of it. Anyway... I did the integrity check and a note came up saying I should use the online dbfix to…

D'oh! I should've known that. That did it! Thank you very much!

I'm still having problems with this. It seems no matter what I try to save to Zotero from RILM, I get the "could not save item" error. It seems to be related to proxy issues. The text of the relevant error seems to be JavaScript Error: "Error: Per…

Any progress on this? I still cannot use EBSCOhost / RILM database, although I have found that I can use other databases with EBSCOhost. Apparently, the error is related specifically to RILM. I submitted another error report, ID #75002776. Thank…

Thanks for the quick reply. The search I just did was for an article by Parker on Verdi and Basevi. A few hits came up, I tried saving a few, and none of them worked.

Sorry, here's the full text of the window that popped up: "Items in the collection ‘___’ have been added and/or removed in multiple locations. The following items have been added to the collection:" Then there's a list of all the stuff. I …

Yep, that's the issue. I only 415 items in my beta library, but most of them have a link to a file (the actual file is not in the Zotero library, but it's linked to it on a hard drive). I'll try back in a few days. Thanks!

I updated to 2.0b6 and I can now successfully sync without an error. (Sorry capitalrefs!)

For WorldCat there are no call numbers pulled at all. My local library doesn't provide a catalog that Zotero can parse, so I use World Cat all the time instead. Is there something I need to do on my end to make it work for grabbing call numbers?
