This isn't the error you should be seeing when trying to edit an existing citation, but it most likely means the citation you are trying to edit is unlinked. You should remove and reinsert that citation.

Do you have the Zotero application open? What version of macOS, Word and Zotero are you running?

What are you doing in between being prompted to reuthorized? Are you still working on the document, browsing some other websites, etc.?

Make sure you are running the latest version of the Zotero Connector. If it still does not work, provide a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector for a refresh of the page and attempt to save.

OpenOffice may be more stable for some operations, but it is also discontinued since 2011 and hence why not supported by Zotero. In this case I'm not sure it's a matter of stability either way.

You should fix your Word licensing issues first. If a license banner appears as you use Zotero, something is still wrong with your Word license (or even Word configuration or installation) and it isn't something that we can help you with.

Sorry, my initial comment was not worded correctly, but I have edited it since. The underline will not reappear if you remove it manually in Word and then refresh the document.
