Can you consistently reproduce it? Could you follow step 10 of debugging broken documents and create a small snippet of the document where the problem is reproducible and send it to support@zotero.org? Make sure you mark the location where insertion…

Judging by the crash log if you have tables in this document it might have something to do with that. It certainly appears to be a bug in Word so you should report this to Microsoft if possible.
-
We'll try to fix this, but it if it stops the document from crashing without the bibliography then you can do that for now. You could also follow debugging broken documents, particularly the step 10 and if you can isolate a part of the document that…

Could you download RotView and run it with a new document in Word, then take a screenshot of the RotView window, upload it somewhere like dropbox and post a link here?

Do you get a crash report from macOS? Could you save it and send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
-
Does it fix itself if you save the file with latin-only characters somewhere on your hard drive? Does it help if you change windows locale to English (US) (you might need to log out and back into your account for the effect to make a difference)?

That is a Report ID. Please follow the link above for instructions on how to submit a Debug ID

Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for an attempt to insert a citation in a new (unsaved) document?
-
Did you check whether Zotero and Word do not run with elevated privileges? That is the most common cause. The fact that Mendeley buttons do not do anything also indicate that Word might be running with elevated privileges.

Is this a M1 Mac or an older one? Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for a crashing operation?

Follow these instructions, as well as those specific to your OS whether it is macOS or Windows

Could you try installing the Zotero Connector into Firefox and see whether you see the same issue there too? When you open the developer tools in Chrome could you switch to the console tab. Then try to insert a citation with Zotero. Do any messages …

Do you see any action from Zotero (a progress bar, citation dialog) at all or do you simply get the popup in Google Docs? Are the fields in the Google Docs popup empty? Are you using an institutional or a personal Google account? Have you tried disa…

We're looking to make a plugin for Word Online, but it's currently impossible due to limitations of the Word JS API. Microsoft developers have indicated that there might be some improvements coming to the Word JS API in the next 6 months and have su…

Try using the Zotero Beta and tell us if you still see the problem.

Sorry, there's a bug in the general document update code in the beta version of Zotero when the update takes long (which is usually the case when importing a transfer document). We'll release a fix soon.
-
The stable version of Connectors always work fine with both beta and stable versions of the Zotero client. There are no special extra features we are testing on the Connector currently and it's unlikely to change. We usually use the beta connector r…

Do you insert these footnotes manually? Does it matter if the footnotes are empty or if there is already text in them?
-
@ilkkaT I could not reproduce the crash. When opening the document, however, I got prompted about a "Word hyphenation feature" that I did not have installed. Apparently you can run the Office setup to add/remove it. I suggest you try removing/disabl…

What citation style are you using? Where and how are you trying to insert the citation? Could you send us a snippet document where you can reproduce the problem?

@MingChen8090 This has been addressed numerous times on the forums. WPS Office has no documentation for how to develop plugins (at least not in English) and as such it is not even clear if a plugin like that is possible. Moreover WPS Office users co…

You should use the document version history in Google Docs to figure out what happened with your citations.
-
Yes, that's correct. There is no good reason for normal LibreOffice writing to use Bookmarks, but if you are using them the idea is to collaborate with a Word user in which case the document has to be saved as .doc or .docx otherwise the bookmarks a…

Yeah, unfortunately it's currently impossible to easily switch to the stable version of Zotero if you've been running the Beta. You will either need to restore from a backup before you started using the Beta or sync your citations with your Zotero a…

There is nothing special about the Zotero toolbar compared to other ones, so this is a LibreOffice question. You should be able to find answers in their help pages or via their support channels.

Sorry it took a while to respond. There is likely some issue with Word's access to the hard disk on your computer. This could be security software interference or something about your system/account configuration. It is worth trying to test with the…
