Did it used to work before and stopped recently or is this the first time using Zotero on this computer?
-
I've created an issue to track this bug, but I don't expect a fix in the immediate future. Note that you shouldn't clear the formatting of citations in footnotes to make them adhere to Word styles, as that removes any other formatting that's part of…

Can you reproduce this crashing behaviour in a new word document consistently?
-
Try refreshing the document with the Zotero Beta Connector which includes a fix for this and should improve the speed of updates in the future. The initial update may take an hour or more, but it should improve afterwards.

@puja86 could you comfirm that the above error message is what you get when trying to insert a bibliography in a document? Also, could you post what operating system version (e.g. Windows 10) and word processor (e.g. Word 365) you use?
-
Please answer all questions above as precisely as possible. It will help to figure out why it doesn't work.
-
Ok. Let's slow down here. The error you are seeing is "Attempting to generate bibliography without having updated processor items", right? Begin by restarting Zotero. 1. If you open a new document, insert a citation and try to add a bibliography, …

If you or someone else edited this document with LibreOffice, Google Docs or other non-Office word processor, the citation fields will have disappeared. You will need to revert to a version of the document prior to this edit.
-
Support for OpenOffice is not coming. OpenOffice has all but been abandoned by Apache, most users and developers by this point have switched to LibreOffice which is being well maintained and updated. You should try to reach out to Dragon developers.

This debug ID is submitted with a non-beta version of Zotero Connector. You need to use the beta version and give it time. We've fixed this bug in the beta, and the fix makes subsequent updates faster, but the initial one can take a fairly long time…

Does word crash or do you only get an error? Does it work well in a new document?
-
How big is your document? Zotero is trying to highlight a citation that you have modified to display an error message, but that part of the integration might be buggy. Refresh the google docs webpage, make sure it loads fully and you can scroll all …
-
@arisilbermann There was a space character at the end of the footnote that you have sent to us. The plugins should ignore trailing whitespace in the footnote when converting, but it currently does not, so you'll have to remove it manually for those …
-
That doesn't sound right. You would only get a message indicating that you cannot insert a Zotero field if you are trying to do it in a link, which is not allowed because Zotero citations are stored as links in the doc. But the operation should just…
-
The debug log does not contain you performing a failing operation. It seems that your had Zotero closed on your computer. You need to have Zotero open and perform the operation in Google Docs that causes the error you described above to occur
-
@shstange A fix for this is now available in the Zotero Beta. Do report if you see any other issues with snapshots.
-
Make sure a security software on your computer isn't removing the Zotero.dotm file from Word startup folder. Reinstalling Zotero or disabling and enabling the Word plugin should not have any effect, or the effect is coincidental with something else …

Seems like this document has been edited with LibreOffice or Google Docs which do not fully support the docx document format and remove Word fields when saving (along with Zotero citations). You will need to fall back to a previous version of the do…
-
@lacombe Check for Word updates first. See whether inserting citations that do not include any non-English latin characters in author names and titles work. See whether it works right in a new doc.
-
Which Word processor, OS, Zotero version and citation style? Does it occur in a new document?
-
If you make a copy of the document and remove all text but a single citation that doesn't convert properly (and the surrounding couple of words), and then attempt to perform a conversion, does it work? If so, run through the debugging broken documen…

Could you produce a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector? 1. Open the Zotero Connector preferences 2. In the Advanced tab of the Zotero Connector preferences, check the box next to “Enable Logging.” Do not close this tab. 3. In the tab with Google Do…

Not right now, but I have created a ticket for it.
-
Run through the debugging broken documents steps.
-
If there is any extra non-citation text (or even space characters) in the footnotes before conversion they will not get converted automatically by Zotero and you will have to manually move those out of footnotes.
-
Sorry for taking a while. When was the last time this worked properly?
-
Which version of Word are you using (like 16.20)? Try reinstalling the Zotero Word plugin from Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors and see whether it works better in a new document.
-
The troubleshooting steps above still apply. Check to see if it works in a new user account on the same computer. If it does, try resetting Word preferences. If that doesn't help you will have to troubleshoot with Microsoft.

You should not be opening the Zotero.dotm file directly, but instead place it in your Word startup directory. Though the Custom UI error very likely indicates interference by security software.
