Which site translators would you like to see?, take 2

  • http://eur-lex.europa.eu/en/index.htm (European Union documents database)
  • Another plug for ARTSTOR. I tried learning how to write translators, but I got stuck, much as I'd love to do it. I will contact ARTSTOR, though. Is there broilerplate language available for making this request?
  • brekhusr: We had an ARTstor translator—which they contributed to—but I suspect it hasn't worked in quite some time. Contact them and mention the existing translator, and start a new thread to follow up.
  • Thanks, Dan; I'll do that. It is also etty odd that the EndNote exporter ARTSTOR has does not work to send the RIS file right to Zotero, even though my preferences are set for Zotero to grab all RIS-format files.

That'd likely be their not sending the RIS file with the correct content type. But follow up in a separate thread.
  • State Library of Victoria
    http://search.slv.vic.gov.au/
    Thanks!
  • we'll eventually get broader coverage of Primo catalogs like SLV.
  • Hi Adam,

Better 'eprints' compatibility would help me a lot.
The site I'm using is http://doras.dcu.ie

Zotero works brilliantly for a few references (eg http://doras.dcu.ie/16915/) , but not for most references on this site:
    example: http://doras.dcu.ie/16904/
    or http://doras.dcu.ie/16881/

I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Safari, so I'm assuming it's a translator issue.

Brilliant application by the way - when it works, it really is unbeatable. Thanks for all the work you're putting in.

    All the best,
    Hugh

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there is no standard for eprints metadata. The closest thing to any sort of schema documentation that I found for eprints comes from a third party site. If there is a standard of any sort, or if you can find a link to the default fields that ship with EPrints, we'd be glad to support it.

That page has a DOI, which is recognized by the DOI translator, which is why it works quite well.

At least with the new version of the translator that I'm finalizing, a lot of the metadata is being picked up from the DC schema. Unfortunately, it's recognizing the item as webpage, which causes most of the metadata to be dropped. I will try to improve the recognition. The new translator should be out soon.
  • Ok , thanks Aurimas.
  • Hi Aurimas,

A quick update: I contacted the eprints developers. They also suggested the Dublin Core route, so hopefully your new translator will do the trick.

They also suggested attempting to use the plugins that appear in the eprints metadata that allow an export to a variety of formats. Dublin Core sounds like the way to go however.

    All the best,
    Hugh
  • Please support the Internet Bookshop (www.ibs.it), the longtime equivalent of Amazon for Italy; plus sbn.it (the Italian OCLC), http://edit16.iccu.sbn.it/web_iccu/ihome.htm (the OCLC of ancient books), and http://manus.iccu.sbn.it/ and bibman.iccu.sbn.it (the OCLC of manuscripts held in Italian libraries, unfortunately, as I write, all of these are down at the moment). For my own selfish reasons, I'd *really* appreciate also the OCLC of libraries in Venice and the Veneto that I use the most, which is located at http://polovea.sebina.it/SebinaOpac/Opac

Thanks a million for all your help!!
    and
    http://polovea.sebina.it/SebinaOpac/Opac
are doable with reasonable amounts of work: They have an easy way to display unimarc. I don't know if anyone can get to this any time soon, but it might happen

    http://manus.iccu.sbn.it/
would entail a very fragile screen scraper, so I at least won't touch it - it's simply not worth it.
and ibs.it doesn't look like they provide enough data to write a useful translator.
  • Hi,
I recently had to reference from website http://clinicaltrials.gov
The way it should be cited is described here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/services/ctcite.html
But at least, if Zotero is able to get the data from the page, it would save time instead of typing it manually. No idea if it's feasible but thanks anyway!

  • A translator for current New England Journal of Medicine would be great!
    http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa021332
  • NEJM now works:
Your copy of Zotero will auto-update within 24hs or you can update immediately from the General tab of the Zotero preferences.
Any problems, please let us know.
  • Centre for Economic Policy Research
    (http://www.cepr.org/pubs/)

    Thanks !

    Guillaume
  • UN Documents
    http://www.un-documents.net

    Thanks!
    American journal of medicine
    thanks!
  • CEPR probably not. I'm a political scientist and I'd love to have a translator, but their site is just too unstructured to write anything fairly clean.

UN Docs - maybe. There seems to be enough in the header to make this possible, though the data won't be great, especially because of the different types of item types.

AMJmed - generally yes, and it's not particularly hard to do, but since DOI data should be pretty good it's not super high priority.
    American Heart Journal

DOI doesnt grab the abstract, or tags.
    Thanks!!
  • same as for AmJMed. I realize that DOI import isn't perfect, I'm just saying why sites that work well with DOI don't have super-high priority.

The other reason this isn't high priority is that all the Elsevier journals are available through Sciencedirect, including keywords, abstracts, and full text PDFs.
  • I 2nd fgregg's request for an SAE translator in the original thread here. I too use the "Report" style but it leaves a bit to be desired, and if I tweak one style to my liking, I still need to tweak another style the next time I write something that references an SAE paper.
  • what do you mean by an SAE translator exactly in this context?
  • For example, when pulling down a paper like this to Zotero:
    http://papers.sae.org/2000-01-2258

I get a citation like this:

Moiseev N, Stoklitsky A, Kisselev B. Development of and Research into the Ergometric Evaluation Method for Space Suit Glove [Internet]. Warrendale, PA: SAE International; 2000 [cited 2011 Aug 18].Available from: http://papers.sae.org/2000-01-2258

which looks more like a website citation, and the report number is only embedded as part of the URL, not earlier in the citation. To make things more complicated, I haven't seen guidelines on how to cite SAE papers - just complaints that I do it wrong, ha.
  • Which citation style is that?
  • Oh sorry - it's the one listed for Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine
  • Oxford reference online
    http://www.oxfordreference.com/
  • Hi,

any chance that the eur-lex.europa.eu database will be available?

Is there any help one could offer with regards to that?

    THX!
  • @lenifer - eur-lex is a bit of a mess in terms of data display & I don't know what should go where in the first place.
You could try and see if Frank Bennett at citationstylist.org would be interested in working on this or knows of someone who does.
You could also start a new thread and list a couple of examples of entries in eur-lex and which fields should import into which Zotero categories. I won't make any promises, but I'll try to take a look eventually in that case.
