Zotero citations in Google Docs are actually in-text links. You can see this by selecting "Insert Link" from the the Google Docs toolbar while over a Zotero citation. That is the reason it changes app

My Zotero Chrome extension is stuck with updating my Google Docs document and whenever I refresh it, I can't add a citation. I see a nanosecond of the drop down menu to cite but ultimately can't cite.

If you're not seeing "Edit with Zotero", it's not an active citation. That's a standard feature of Zotero's Google Docs integration and is the same in all browsers.

When I insert a citation in Google Docs using Google Chrome browser, the citation is displayed as normal text, in black color.

Next time I open Google Docs Zotero asks me if I want to keep the change.

Zotero works with Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs. If you are using another program like Scrivener, use the ODF Scan plugin. It works like RTF Scan, but much more reliable.

As does google docs using Chrome or Firefox.

I am using Google Docs in chrome. It always puts the reference number as a superscript. Is the a way to change that to (1), (2), etc. ?

Word should be more reliable, especially on Windows. It's somewhat slower on macOS, but still should be relatively better than Google Docs.

@evafillion Are you using any other Google Docs extensions besides Zotero?

@mariannlyngstad You have 300 citations in this Google Doc. Presumably that's a fairly long document. Unfortunately Google Docs is quite slow with long documents. The editor itself starts slowing down
