Zotero.dotm is just a Word template that adds a ribbon tab and some macros. Word determines its placement in the ribbon, and the template certainly doesn't have any control over focus.

After installing Zotero addon on MS Word, Zotero menu steals the focus when Word starts. There does not seem to be any setting to revert to Home menu. Also, Zotero menu places itself before Home menu

What do you mean by "exported"? Are you using the word processor plugins, copying a bibliography to the clipboard, or exporting to a file? You'll want to use the plugin for proper formatting.

Have you removed Zotero.dotm from Word and confirmed that it was completely gone before from Word before continuing?
