insert citation taking too long

Hi,

First thank you for providing Zotero, it has been incredibly useful for me in the past few months for thesis writing. So my problem is very recently when I insert a citation, it started to take a very long time (~10 min or even more).

It is a relatively big file but not insane (300 pages and ~250 references). I wonder if there is setting I could change to help with the insertion.

  • I already did this, but it's still taking a very long time. most of the time it gave an error message instead of insertion

    What OS and Word version?
  • Sequoia 15.7.3 word 16.113, and Zotero was updated to the newest version too.

Generally citation insertion will be slower after restarting Zotero, but once you cite in the document once, subsequent citations should be much faster. How long is it taking? Can you produce a Debug ID for a citation insert that is slow?

You can make Zotero operations faster by splitting your document into multiple per-chapter documents, and then recombining at them at the end.

this is the ID. I tried to insert and refresh. Today it seemed better without error warnings. in smaller files it is indeed better.

Since you have automatic citation updates disabled, the expectation is to run refresh sparingly. After inserting the first citation into this doc after having restarted Zotero, are subsequent insertions still slow or are they faster?
  • Hey you're right! the first one took a bit of time, and the later ones are much better. However in the end I anyway need to refresh the document for the entire document this is still taking time.

On another note, the citation format also changed on its own. It's the same style applied but an underscore is automatically added to the numbers.

I have generated a new debug ID. D758318049
