Restart Word and Zotero. Attempt to refresh the document. Make sure you wait a while. There is not a progress indicator, but Zotero is working.

What's the full version number of Word that you are running? Can you reproduce this in a new document? How big is your current document?

An easy, helpful, feature would be to include the "look-up" option when highlighting a word and right-clicking, in the PDF within Zotero. As it is now, one can highlight or copy.
