Deleted references keep appearing in the bibliography

Hi,
We are using Word on Mac. We deleted some references in our text, but they keep appearing in the bibliography, although we refresh everything. We tried to delete the bibliography and reinsert it, but they keep showing. We have enabled the field shading, but no fields have been found for these references.
What can we do?

    You can try Edit Bibliography --> Reset, but this is almost certainly remaining stray field codes. Using a numeric style (Vancouver, IEEE) will let you figure out where about to look.

    Thanks for the quick feedback!
    We figured it must be stray field codes. We were already using a numeric style, but even with the field shading enabled, we are unable to locate the problematic field codes.
    When you write Reset, do you mean the Refresh button or is it another option offered on Word?

    No, it's "Revert All" when you click on "Add/Edit Bibliography"
