Zotero starts from citation1

Zotero does not recognize the previous citations it created on my word document, and starts from citation 1 again. Document saved as .docx, nothing changed on the document.

Uninstalled/reinstalled Zotero; Checked all previous forum discussions on this and nothing seem to change.

Any helpful advice to fix this problem is appreciated.

Also if the 1 has an underline, check it “keep citations updated” is checked in the Document Preferences window in the Zotero tab in Word

Thanks for your suggestions. I could not get them to work though after trying the suggestions. Ended up redoing the references over a couple of hours of my sunday.
