You can try switching back to whichever style you were using before and then switching to HCT with footnotes, see if that works, and then switch to endnotes (which for some reason are wonkier in Word)

Zotero will not refresh and load my reference list if I save the document. I can copy and pasted into an unsaved Word doc and it works fine. I can add and edit citations and it will refresh correctly.

You should submit a Debug ID after attempting to cite in Word. Otherwise, follow the instructions on the troubleshooting page and report what happens at each step.

We've just rolled out Zotero 6.0.37 for Mac with a clearer message when this occurs that suggests checking whether Word is running under Rosetta.

There is no automated way to convert Zotero citations to Word citations. They also don't like the fact that Zotero (sensibly) assigns identical citations to a single number.
