If you are using a particular font and font size, then you should change the formatting of the Normal style or other paragraph style in Google Docs, rather than manually changing the font.

If you have added a _lot_ of citations already to your document, then Zotero can start to slow down. This is worse for Google Docs than for Word or LibreOffice, unfortunately.

I would say that "science writers" are moving to more collaborative writing tools such FidusWriter, F1000Workspace or just Google Docs. But InDesign? Quite a cumbersome tool to write and annotate/edit

@adomasven Yes, the same. They look like {\rtf \cite{Hesper_Hogeweg_1970}} in Google Docs in Chrome. Export bibliorgaphy gives \cite{Hogeweg_2011} for the same item. Zotero 5.0.80.

From your email it sounds like you’re trying to edit a Word doc in Google Docs. You can’t do that directly — you need to transfer the document to Google Docs if you want to use the plugin there.

I've read all of the troubleshooting threads for google docs I can find. I've restarted chrome, restarted zotero, started a new document, etc. When I try to use "add/edit citation", it shoots me over
