    Yes, you can use Zotero with the Word or Libreoffice plug-ins to cite while you write in those word processors.

    I just installed Zotero in LinuxMint 19 via flatpak. The desktop application works. Unfortunately, the above command hasn't located the Libreoffice extension file. Any help would be appreciated.

    Just to make sure you have the latest extension, try removing the extension completely from LibreOffice, confirming that it's gone, and then reinstalling it from the Cite pane of the Zotero preference

    Using the LibreOffice plugin, you just click the button to insert a citation. The search bar to search for the reference will pop up in LibreOffice. No need to switch to the Zotero app.

    The problem is that if I change the settings in libreoffice the author-date-block changes as well and the author is at the left margin and the date at the right.

    If you mean you don't want to toggle back between Zotero and LibreOffice, you can do that for inserting references (see https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage ) but not for viewing
