Zotero: A Researcher's Life Buoy

Hi RISRDF, I though t the following observations made by me are pertinent to this conversation. http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/70/1/importing-endnote-files-into-zotero/#CommentBody_20057 Simon Cropper

Eofios, The problem with creating a bibliography externally and then placing it in your word document is that you don't have the comfort that all references that are cited are in the bibliography, and what is in the bibliography is actually what ha…

I also use date ranges but in a different way. I use a range for book series, e.g. Harden, G. J. (ed.) (1990-1993) "Flora of New South Wales" 4 Volumes (New South Wales University Press: Kensington: New South Wales).

I would also like to know how to make the URLs presented in a bibliography 'hot', that is make them hyperlinks that allow the reader to click on the URL to view the source in the browser. Once a bibliography is 'hard-wired', you can manually visit e…

Sorry, you a right. I must of randomly chosen journals that did not have the abbreviation.
-
If you follow your link to the data incubator site and look at the data stored for journals; the journals standard abbreviation is not recorded.
-
Journals metadata does not have abbreviations though, so cross referencing abbreviations with full title and back will not be able to be done.
-
Related but not directly on topic is the ability to convert abbreviations to full text. I visit a range of sites that the translator actually copies the abbreviated title, and I have to write it out in full and on occasion move from the journal name…

Worked fine. Thank you.

noksagt, I updated my translators from the preference window and checked I have the latest download and the problem still occurs. Simon

Hi, Similar problem to what has been described above. Using latest version of Zotero (2.0b2) with Firefox 3.0.10 on windows XP Pro SP3 machine. Zotero Library contains ~10,000 records. Problem - dragging item from "My Library" to collection result…

Yes, I discovered this after fiddling around. As the webpage had not been updated I was not sure how the process was going to work. I noted that as the addon was updated so to was the database. As the database changes with each new release I take it…

Version 2 is a rebadging of 1.5. Sensible I think, considering the effort involved in the latest version. What is going to happen to 1.5? Will people using 1.5b2.1 be automatically updated to 2, or will we need to download again?

Rintze, That is a fair point, although creation of a name routine that captured Mc and O'; and other common prefixes could also work. That said, someone needs to develop the functionality then curate a list, and from what I can tell there are more …

erazlogo, I am not implying that any data is changed in the database. In fact using the style sheet only changes how it is outputed. I can make various macros to to handle the situation as mentioned above. All I am suggesting is that text-case="pro…

Omega13 has included a period after the HTML extension. Follow this link... http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/cite/ahcca/index.html

Nat, I am not sure how experienced in Zotero you are so I apologise if you already know what I am about to say. I to have the need to italicise words in titles - scientific names actually. Essentially the only way at present to meet this need is t…

What is your browser? Zotero runs in FireFox. If you are using Firefox install the Plug-In. Have you done all this?
-
I think this discussion is rather mute. My understanding most styles only recognise three broad types - "book", "chapter" and "journal". Most of the other types mentioned here default to one of these broad types unless the style sheet explicitly lis…

What is presented in a citation or bibliography is controlled by what style you use. If you want IEEE style but with 'URL' and 'Date Accessed' included you will need to change the XML file as described in the Developers Section of the Zotero Website…

I have been using Zotero for several months now and have found collections very useful in grouping references I tend to cite together. I am an ecologist. Consequently, I have my standard references for taxonomy, nomenclature and conservation status.…

My solution would be for one of you to be the main person adding references - that persons responsibility would be to add all the references to you citation software and insert into the document. Drafts of the document would be sent to your colleagu…

Looking at the record provided I can see "TY - JOUR" twice. This is the flag to record the start of a record in RIS and should not be in the N1 field, i.e. "N1 - TY - JOUR". Try removing this and importing again.

That's not particularly useful for serious scholarly study, of course. Although the article itself may not be able to be used in a serious scholarly study. The list of references provided can some times be valuable if you are attempting to collate a…

Alessandro, I notice at the bottom of the PROLA search page that Google Scholar is search partner. If you conduct a search with this engine then you get the ability to import multiple references. With the few tests I conducted I got the same articl…

Logan, I am surprised to hear that you could not standardise the drive letter for the portable disk. The following link discussed how you can do this in windows. If you are using Linux ask the appropriate question in the support forum for your dist…

Mark, I also have a collection of paper references and PDFs. My paper based collection has been collated over a 15-20 year period and represents a significant resource in my company. I have over 600 references, which over the years I have attempted…

The original tips discussed at this site and the subsequent conversation between Mark and myself appears pertinent to your question. My queries stemmed from a similar need to consolidate a large existing library and PDF on various websites I continu…
