Thanks for this superfast reply!

The Zotfile xpi has to be installed into Zotero, not into Firefox, as far as I remember! Yes, as written here https://github.com/jlegewie/zotfile: "For Zotero 5, first download the extension file (follow the download link [given], click on the .xp…

Do you use the newest plugin by now? And have a look here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/68768/no-z-button-after-firefox-57-upgrade#latest

You can update the suspicious file to https://virustotal.com/ to check it. The text you posted sounds like a heuristic scan result, not a virus analysis. You can additionally check your computer with Antimalware, look at https://www.emsisoft.com/de…

I guess you will to put in the right path where you strored your citations in Zotero 4, or 7 and you have to give Zotero the credentials for your account. It seems Zotero doesn't find the librarys path.

@chris.tampere : I did not want to offend you in any way, but it seems I did. I am sorry for that. I critized the inflation of "Styles", and the fact that nearly any journal has "it's own" so called "Citation-Style", inline as well as the citation …
-
@chris.tampere : In which document do you need that different inline-citation-format? From my point of view this discussion is utmost academic in the negative meaning. As one can see, the mass of Citation-"Styles" is there for historical reasons …

In Ovid like in PubMed you can select the entry of a citation and export this entry to a file or to the clipboard. This is the classical way to handle citations, as you can workout the list of your search-hits. This step is to be done without Zoter…
-
Two steps to work it out: 1. Switch off the Ad-Blocker, and retry. Does it work? 2. Select a number of files in Ovid, and EXPORT the citations to the clipboard and try to get them in Zotero. That should work in any case.
-
Are any Script-Blockers etc. running? When I got you right, at the moment when it hangs you didn't work with Zotero, the failure occurs in Ovid? What means "click on select"? I don't have access to Ovid, so I can't test that. Does the same happ…

Try to mark the citations you want to import to Zotero in ovid, and export them to a file or paste the selected citations to the clipboard and import them to Zotero, Zotero will show you an option to import from the clipboard. Try not to mark all 10…

How many entries does your library have? Where are the citations stored? With Zotero 4 I had one last longing synchronization. I switched off my computer, restarted, and all was fine & done... maybe a risk, but it suceeded.
-
The subfolders have to be synchronized also, i think. So, subfoldering may mean to make something new, from my opinion.
-
@dstillman Yes, but it seems that an old Firefox-Version made that problems wheninstalling Zotero 5, as i get it here. I could imagine that, as I keep my software up to date, and no one maybe will have tested what happens when when you install Zoter…
-
I think so. Maybe this gives a hint for the users as well as the developers to work out some scary problems, if they occur again... like having the ghost of Firefox old data dump, when you update Zotero. This "Firefox old data dump" seems to be the…
-
@marianschmidt Regarding to your No. 4: If you're selecting a folder in Zotero Standalone, and then store the citation, Zotero will put it in that folder. I find this more convenient than picking a folder out of a small PopUp-list. You should hav…

I guess you are using a actual Version of Word. With older Word-Versions, there were advices to copy the whole Text in the Word-File to a new, empty word document, if such failures occured. You could try this without risk, but I'm not sure if e.…

Someone should correct the Title of this Post - it is not a Zotero or Connector problem, but a false game by Elsevier. I'm shocked that Elsevier even hinders the legal download of PDFs with tools like Zotero inbetween, as it seems to be here! Where…

@adamsmith: Great, I just noticed that in this minute... So I seem to have no problem.
-
@dstillman: I'm not able to install anything on my Firefox at work, the only way is to use the bookmarklet. I also can't use a mobile Firefox with Zotero Connetor installed in it, as the use of Software on a Stick is prohibited. Would be genious if…
-
First, thanks a lot for Zotero 5. The upgrade went fine on my 2 Computers, no problems on that. As I work also on computers where I can't install any software and my admins won't let me have Zotero installed, I have now problems to use it. Is the…

I had the update to Zotero for Firefox to Version 4.0.29.21 beforehand Firefox update to 54. Un- and reinstalling Firefox-updates is not that easy, as Firefox-related things are stored deep in the profile-folders from Firefox. Maybe you revert to…
-
Seems you're right. All the things with all the upcoming updates are somehow confusing with all that changes - Connector, Plugin, Standalone, what, when, ... So, what I saw was an update for Zotero for Firefox, seems to be no risk to make that upg…
-
I have the same here as creik wrote. My Firefox did load a update for the Zotero-Connector silently and will install it with the next restart of Firefox. I'm working with the most actual Firefox and am using Zotero 4 in its latest release in the s…

Is the computer not working because of any reason, or has the harddisk (or SSD) crashed? If the harddisk is alive, you can gain access to the library by plugging the harddisk to a new computer - but if you don't know how to do this, you should ask …
-
We are far away from having something like "Duke Nukem Forever", don't we? Things work fine for me with the actual Zotero 4. I will be happy to work with Zotero 5.X when it is published. Things have to grow, and growing takes time, as it is always.

@ amc: It sounds like your IT installed Version 4 with administrator privileges, and the Plug-In tries to get privileges again to get installed... I think you can't solve this without your IT.
