The errors you are getting are pointing to a corrupt field. You should follow step 8 of the broken documents debugging instructions.

You should use step 8 of the broken documents debugging instructions to debug this.
-
If this is a small document and it wouldn't be too much effort could you remove the text contents of it except for a few sentences around citations, check whether you still get this error and if you do, send it to support@zotero.org with a link to t…

What version of Word are you using (e.g. 16.21)

See the "Arrange on your toolbar" section https://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/answer/2664769?hl=en

@rachaelgarcia Try restarting your browser. Does it work in a new document?
-
Try moving the file that's failing out of OneDrive, if it's there.
-
If you get the bibliography editing prompt it means that you either already have the bibliography, or at least some buggy trace of it in the document. Checking over footnotes won't help, you actually have to use the method as described in the debugg…

You can just use quick copy for unlinked cites. You can also try the open-source alternative to Word -- LibreOffice. You can share documents with active Zotero citations across Word and LibreOffice.
-
How much time passes before the error appears? Have you tried step 8 of debugging instructions where you keep on cutting the document in halves? What version of Word are you on (such as 16.20)?
-
There are no plans for this in the near future.

Unfortunately Zotero integration with Mac Word got very slow since Word 16.9. There is little we can do, bar rewriting the whole plugin using an updated Word API and even then it's not clear whether that would improve the performance. If you haven't…

The Word plugin works with all current versions of Office. There is an issue with the Startup location when Office is installed via the Microsoft App Store, but we currently expect Microsoft to fix it. See https://github.com/zotero/zotero-word-for-w…

This is certainly just a bug. You should try reaching out to Microsoft if possible. The more people complain to them, the more likely that this will get resolved.

Yes, although Trusted Locations being empty is weird. This is what mine look like by default https://www.dropbox.com/s/agz4qfyz1j0zcqr/trusted_locations.png?dl=0 You could also try putting Zotero.dotm under the User Templates directory.
-
What about the settings in the Trust Center under Add-ins? What happens if you uncheck all the boxes there? In Trust Center under Trusted Locations is the Word startup folder listed?
-
@norazi @mgw14 @carlnordlund When you open Zotero.dotm do you get a prompt to enable macros? What are your Macro settings in Word? Have you tried playing around with those?
-
The data that is synced with Zotero is in your data directory. This is the directory that grows in proportion to your library and the only one you need to move to a USB stick if you want to keep it off your main computer. You can set the location of…

Try manually installing the Zotero.dotm file you have downloaded into Word and see whether the plugin works after restarting Word. https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation

Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero? 1. In the Help menu, go to Debug Output Logging and select Enable. 2. Click the Add/Edit Citation button in Word. 3. Before doing anything else, return to Zotero Help → Debug Output Logging and click Submit…

Could you submit a Report ID? Could you try to see if it works with Zotero Beta?
-
Thanks for letting us know and glad it worked out. The stable Zotero connector has now been updated with this fix, so you can switch back if you don't want to be on the Beta version, which occasionally might introduce some instabilities.
-
@norazi If you are willing to do something more technical, you could try opening Zotero.dotm with Word, going into the Visual Basic editor in Word and trying to run the ZoteroAddEditCitation macro from the Zotero VB file and checking what line the e…

The number characters and citations is no longer an issue with the Beta connector as long as it can make that first pass over the document. The purge only removes associated files, not items. But you shouldn't need to purge your Zotero storage, you…

You will certainly not have this problem if you move to Word. Copying between Google Docs and maintaining citations is unfortunately not possible right now and it's not clear whether we'll ever be able to support it. Either way, this is mostly an is…

If you click to edit an individual citation in the document and hit Enter when the citation dialog shows up, does the update go through? Are you using any other Google Docs plugins? Could you copy some sizable chunks of the document that do not incl…

To put it into perspective this issue is present in Word for Mac 2008 and this is the first time it got reported. The fix is very much non-trivial due to the difficulty of inserting any kind of rich text into Word via available APIs to begin with.
-
Does it work in a new Windows user account?
-
You should try exporting the file from Web of Science and trying again, or try exporting smaller batches of the same content. The error is for malformed xml data and it's likely that WoS export is broken. If you think the Web of Science export is co…

Security software logs would have information on this if they were indeed the culprit. Could you confirm that you only have one version of Word installed in this computer? What you are describing in general is very weird. If security software were r…
