Run through the debugging broken documents steps.

What version of Word are you using? Have you tried updating?
-
You will have to be more specific about the error. See Reporting Problems
-
@Donna_V Try restarting Zotero. If you minimize the Zotero window before citing in Google Docs (as opposed to simply switching to Firefox window) the citation dialog will fail to come up on top of the Google Docs window. This is a Windows issue and …

Does it work in a new document when inserting the same item?
-
We really do not recommend using the extension with OpenOffice anymore since you might get wrong citation formatting or citation corruption. That said, you can probably enable the toolbar under View -> Toolbars -> Zotero.
-
Restart Zotero. When you initiate a Google Docs operation make sure Zotero is not minimized. The citation window belongs to Zotero, so if it does not appear on top of the browser, you might need to cycle through Zotero windows to find it.

What is the full version number of Word that you are using? Are Word updates available?
-
The Beta version should be out next week. There is currently no way to go from Google Docs to other word processors and preserve links. There is no way to revert back to an older version of the plugin, since part of it is deployed within Google Docs…
-
This was true initially, but we needed to make some changes to the plugin because large documents were failing to update and/or work completely. A side-effect of this change that we later realised was that copying within the document had been compro…

Cutting and pasting is currently not supported within Google Docs for citations and the most likely reason for your toubles. We're working to support it in the near future.
-
This is not a persistent issue, but general troubleshooting steps still apply. Try restarting Zotero, then run through the debugging broken documents steps.
-
Zotero updates automatically and your report ID suggests you have the latest version so you have nothing to do in that regard. If you have the version of this document that was broken could you send the snippet of text that was the ultimate cause of…
-
We will fix this eventually, but it's not going to happen in the near future.
-
Do you know what causes these problems so I can reduce the chance of it happening in the future? That depends on what the issue was. How did you solve it? Generally any kind of document corruption can cause errors like that, as well as bugs in Zoter…

Does it work in a new document? Can you insert citations from your personal library in this document?
-
It is very likely document specific. The halving technique shouldn't take you more than 7 or 8 steps to identify the problematic part of the document even if it is over 200 pages long and is designed to be a quick way to troubleshoot issues.
-
This is really odd, but you can still use the slightly modified instructions of the step 8 to figure out the problem. Split the document into 2 halves: A, B. Then take a half of B and paste it at the end of A. See if you get the error. Keep splittin…

Assuming you have a reasonable number of citations for a document of this size (i.e. over 200), the Word plugin will inevitably be slow. This is an issue with Mac Word. Your best bet is to disable automatic citation updates in the document preferenc…

You can add old-style toolbars via the gear icon (top-right) -> Toolbars -> Zotero
-
How big is your document and how many citations do you have?
-
What happened when you tried step 8? Did both parts of the document work? What if you remove one part and then recombine again?
-
We want to avoid platform-specific features unless it's a limit of a platform itself, that goes for Zotero on different OSes or citing on different word processors. We would still accept a PR for Word-only, but ideally we'd want a comparable feature…
-
We would accept a pull request for this, although ideally the functionality would cover both LibreOffice and Word. We cannot do this with Google Docs as it uses links to store citation IDs.
-
And if you copy both halves of the document into a new document, you get the same error? Could you produce a Report ID after seeing this error from the integration?
-
This is a generic Google Docs error. Sometimes it takes a few hours or even days for them to resolve. There is nothing you can do but wait and try again later.
-
Does it work in a new document? Step 8 of the debugging instructions should help you identify the snippet of the document that is causing the issue. Did you not manage to find such snippet?
-
Restart Chrome. When you first attempt to use Zotero with the document you will be prompted to select a google account. Make sure you select the account that has editing permissions for the document you are working on.
-
From which to which style are you changing? Are your citations currently stored as endnotes?
