You seem to be referring to ZotFile here, not Zotero. We can't help with ZotFile. The PDF reader in the Zotero beta can create a note from annotations and preserve annotation colors.

If you used the third-party ZotFile plugin to move the file, that would indeed delete the existing annotations, but that's just because ZotFile hasn't been updated since the beta came out and doesn't

If you're using ZotFile to create linked files, you'd have to check the plugin settings to adjust this behavior.

(Not sure what settings you're referring to, but the desktop settings, or having ZotFile installed, wouldn't have any effect on the iOS app.)

I have the beta app, but I'm storing the library on Dropbox, not on the zotero servers. I also have Zotfile.

Thanks! I would use zotfile via the Chrome extension - download PDF’s and create a linked entry in my library. These files would not have any annotations yet. I usually then read and annotate in PDF-E

ZotFile hasn't been updated since the beta came out, doesn't know anything about Zotero annotations, and will delete them if you use it to convert an attachment with existing annotations.

If a stored attachment is converted to a linked attachment by Zotfile, any annotations will be lost without warning. That's what I was alluding to.

Not sure that's right on Zotfile in general @bwiernik? I'm not sure if ZotFile is currently broken for the beta (that's a different topic), but the auto-move feature on import wouldn't pose a problem
