Both use the same extension system. You can install the .xpi for the ZotFile beta in Zotero Standalone the same as in Zotero for Firefox. (Also, there is no browser-based version of Zotero 5.0.)

I am a NewB to the programming world, and zotfile is causing me problems. I cannot extract any file notes. I have succeeded in extracting a few notes, which look like this: "141303098

It's Zotfile 4.2.6, and I'm using Acrobat Reader DC 2015.023.20070. The extraction works fine if I annotate on PDF-Xchange, but this would mean re-annotating a ton of files...

We can't help you with ZotFile, but if you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces an error we might be able to tell you more.

That's a ZotFile error. You'd have to report it to the ZotFile developer, or disable ZotFile.
