For tabs, we can probably do something like the down-arrow tab menu that appears at the right edge of the tab bar in Firefox and Chrome.

Firefox: Tools > General > Applications > (search for 'Research Information Systems Document' by scrolling), then select it, then from the dropdown menu select 'Use Zotero (default).

If you search for "file" in the Firefox preferences there's an Applications section where you can change settings for specific file types.
