Exporting citation from google scholar to zotero: 'opening scholar.ris' pop-up is not coming up!

Hello All,

Last few days, I have been experiencing an issue in using Zotero. Always, I export references or citations from google scholar to Zotero software opened on my computer. I follow: " Cite (on google scholar page) > RefMan > Then a pop-up window come up as 'opening scholar.ris', where 'Open with Zotero (default)' option become available [as this - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dJ2dbSeCyvEhSFQTZMaPVks1_lhNeaPy/view?usp=sharing] > OK. Then the reference gets added directly on my opened Zotero software.

Recently, the pop-up 'opening scholar.ris' is not coming up. Instead, when I am clicking on the 'RefMan', it is asking me to save the .ris file on my computer, which I do not want. I like adding the references directly to the Zotero software. Do you know how can I get back to the option I want? Or, why suddenly did the option is stopped working? I have checked on other computers, and it is working there.

I use the Firefox browser. I have tested it on google chrome also. The issue is the same.

Best regards,

  • That's a Firefox setting. Search for "file" in the Firefox preferences.
  • Hello dstillman,

Thank you so much for your quick reply. Would you please share the way in a bit more detail? I could not get it. I checked all the settings on Firefox.

    Regards,
  • If you search for "file" in the Firefox preferences there's an Applications section where you can change settings for specific file types.
  • Thanks a lot, dstillman. It is working now. You have saved a lot of time.

Firefox: Tools > General > Applications > (search for 'Research Information Systems Document' by scrolling), then select it, then from the dropdown menu select 'Use Zotero (default).
