Thank you (I had not considered it would take so long), and I will now try again!
-
The references are not in a group library. Here is the debug id: D2027743213 Thanks!
-
Thank you! Transpired I had an old setting embedded deeply somewhere...now undone and buttons are on right and now match Zotero. Much appreciated.
-
Thank you: like so many others I love the new interface, and it will help in convincing students to use Zotero. One minor matter I would like to draw to your attention: In Ubuntu Linux window buttons are on the left but Zotero does not conform (the…
-
Thanks: I have tried this, and it does not resolve the matter. Perhaps the probem is related to the fact that I run two computers, with my PDFs in pCloud? One is Windows, with the library at the relative path P:\Library, and one is Linux with the li…

Thank you very much (the only third party plugin I use is Zotfile) . When you refer to 'unsetting th elinked attachment base directory' do you mean set it to absolute paths, and then reset it to P:\Library? With thanks.
-
Thank you adamsmith. I am returning to this again as I have been unable to resolve the matter. I'm not sure whether you have misunderstood the problem but setting the relative path to p: does not resolve the matter. I am still perplexed about how …

My apologies for raising this: I should have checked more closely. Articles with abstracts are translated into Zotero correctly. Thanks!
-
Thank you: I will do some research on how to change the permission of the /opt/zotero folder. In the meantime, I have moved zotero to ~/bin/zotero so that I can use it and it updates. I am aware of the deb package, but would prefer not to use it, a…

Thank you: I'm not sure I fully understand this but I don't need to keep past versions available. I would, however, like zotero to update, and the only way I know how to facilitate this is to unzip the tarball into a folder in my home directory (whi…
-
Installing to /opt/zotero reminds me of why I stopped doing this. The only way I know of putting the extracted tarball there is using sudo. All works fine, but then zotero cannot update. Is there another way? Thanks
-
Thank you @dstillman. I was obviously very confused. I have now reinstalled as suggested, updated the path to my default linked attachment base directory, and all is well (and I was not asked to create a profile). Super.
-
Not from the tarball. It is unzipped to /home/.zotero (same place I ran zotero 5, which is now moved). I followed the instructions at https://www.zotero.org/support/installation to make a launcher, and all is as usual apart from this profile dialogu…
-
I will just add that I asked this originally in the thread regarding the new beta, as I had never been asked to create a profile before.
-
Thank you for this outstanding new facility! I am running the beta on Ubuntu 20.10. When it starts, I am asked to create a profile, which I do, leaving 'Use the selected profile without asking at startup' enabled. However, I am still asked to creat…

Brilliant, thank you.

Ah thank you, and noted. For the few I tried I have now retrieved the DOI using ZoteroBib, and could then use Find Available PDF (although the PDFs were not available, but that is for other reasons). Of course, it would be nice to be able to use Fi…
-
@dstillman Thank you very much and I confirm that all three of my examples now work. Brilliant!
-
I have noticed that in some cases ZoteroBib can recognize an article from its DOI but not from its title. Here are a few examples: 1) Complexities of Conflict: The Importance of Considering Social Factors for Effectively Resolving Human-Wildlife Co…
-
These are brilliant suggestions, and would go a long way towards the alleviating the problems with backing up a zotero database that contains many web pages.
-
@dstillman many thanks for these further comments. I look forward to developments. FYI, in the workshop that I have been teaching this week one student was already using Mendeley. As the students wanted to know where their PDFs are being stored in …

Thank you for the various responses: which offer various possibilities for my scenarios 1 and 3 (but not 2), and all of which I am aware of and already use to some extent myself. They are not simple, however, and in providing students (e.g. scenario…
-
Thanks you @BenCarr. I already use Zotfile to move and rename files in more or less the way that you recommend, and many of my students do the same. With respect to your suggestion for scenario 1, this is not a solution because within ScholarOne t…
-
Thank you @adamsmith for the suggestion regarding scenario 1. Whilst this would work, I have found during this writing workshop that people are uncomfortable with complicated solutions to what feels like a relatively simple need (i.e. to be able to …
-
@dstillman Many thanks for moving my query here, and apologies for asking it in the wrong thread. Here is why this matter interests me. I illustrate it with a few scenarios (I am currently running a Writing for Conservation workshop for early career…

The changelog for 5.0 indicates that 'Future versions of Zotero will simplify the structure of the data directory for easier browsing from the filesystem'. This interests me: would it be possible to know more about how the planned new structure of t…

Noted, thank you.
-
That is correct, file my PDF attachments using Zotfile as it makes it so much easier to use them for a range of purposes. As much as I love Zotero (and use it every day) the Zotero way of storing files has its limitations.
-
Many thanks, and I confirm this. I have now added three references to My Publications and they appear in my online profile. I am able to use the new button in the right hand pane to set the visibility of child items. However, whilst snapshots can …

Sorry, and thank you very much!
