You had it written in a narrative style, outside the brackets. Can you link to the author guidelines please? However, I'm not seeing that (He, Zhang 2023). It's doing (He, Zhang 2023) with a space.

Ah, I didn't understand your problem. So you cited this item and used the "omit author" feature to remove the authors? Then what's written in your text, the author names, you'd need to write manually.

You can enter it in the extra field like so: editor: Miller||John The way it's then presented in bibliographies is dependent of the citation style though.

But have you tried a completely fresh document, insert 1 citation and add a bibliography? This info helps with troubleshooting your problem for you.

It sounds like you are using an endnote style. Make sure that if you use a note style it's set to footnote (Word, Zotero tab, Document preferences). Otherwise switch to an in-text style like APA or so.
