1) Which PDF specifically has the issue? I tried a few of them and they don't seem to have the encoding issue. 2) Which operating system do you use?
-
If text is not aligned to horizontal or vertical axis, it can't be selected or highlighted in Zotero PDF reader. OCRing software takes care of this normally.
-
@LiuZR Can you provide a Debug ID for the time interval where you create a note and paste those Chinese characters?
-
I can't reproduce it so far. Does the same problem appear in library tab?
-
1) Can you see all pages if you drop your PDF file into PDF.js online viewer? 2) How big is the file?
-
@LiuZR It seems the screenshot link expired before I had an opportunity to see it. Can you upload it again?
-
We'll fix that — thanks.
-
This should get better in Zotero 7. We'll also try to optimize mass image annotation rendering.
-
@JorgePLK Image annotation rendering happens automatically when you modify or create image annotations. The images are cached in Zotero data directory. And no, there is no way to configure image resolution (it can't be too low because it would look …
-
Oh, I guess you already did exactly that. Unfortunately I can't see the error message. But most likely this is a known issue that occurs with some scanned papers containing very large images.
-
Are you just selecting the tab? Because we need to log the moment when you open the PDF file and the error occurs.
-
Yes, highlight annotations should be imported without any problems.
-
Underline annotations cannot be imported currently.
-
Then could you provide a Debug ID for it happening?
-
I saw you created another discussion about image annotations. If you did something that triggers all image annotation re-rendering (newly synced annotations or deleted cached images) that might be the problem why it takes so long to load the file or…
-
Could you paste the complete error message with all details?
-
I tested the PDF file and it seems Zotero memory usage can spike over 2GB when intensively scrolling this PDF file, and then settles down to around 1GB once scrolling is finished. The PDF file has high resolution images that are slow to render. All …
-
All right then. We are going to upgrade to a newer PDF.js after releasing Zotero 7.
-
@lshaver7W You just need to drag & drop your PDF file into that viewer and test it. That is just an example PDF…
-
@JorgePLK Could you export the PDF file with annotations (File → Save As), upload to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. and send us a link to support@zotero.org. If the export fails or you don't want to do that, please send us at least the file. Also, how…

Does it render correctly if those PDF files are opened with PDF.js viewer?
-
Yes, it seems link annotation borders are set to be visible in this PDF file. Some PDF readers respect this and some not. Future Zotero versions, probably, won't show them as well.
-
Does it help if you disable Better BibTex extension?
-
It's unlikely that we allow converting inline to block (display) node just by typing additional $. There're too many complications with that. But we could consider adding a context menu option for that. I.e. "Turn Into Block".
-
@kirk86 1) Do you mean you want to convert a math node back into plain text or what? 2) Does it work as expected if you type $$ and press space? 3) Markdown tables aren't supported currently. Do you mean you were able edit math in old MD notes? How?
-
If you are talking about Zotero PDF reader, then it is a known issue and will be fixed in a future version.
-
Could you also make a video that demonstrates the PDF reader issue, because the previous videos are only about note editor.
-
Actually the support for Shift+Up/Down arrows was implemented and definitely worked at some point. Seems like a regression in PDF reader.
-
Something prevents Zotero writing to file inside Zotero data directory. Possible reasons could be permissions or security software.
-
Do you mean that happens when opening a note? Because in the videos I only see a note having difficulties to load that many images. Do you have issues opening a PDF file as well?
