Thank you for a fantastic essay that also reflects many of my thoughts as a regular Zotero user for more than a decade. I was also a bit puzzled by the choice to prioritize a PDF editor and better notetaking functionality over longstanding issues su…

@lumint : get in touch with me per e-mail (s.o.johansen@jus.uio.no), and I'll give you a tutorial on Zotero and OSCOLA.

There is a small issue with citing generic documents (secondary sources) using the OSCOLA style. Long story short, the parenthesis with year/date is missing. This is the guidance given for generic secondary sources in OSCOLA (4th edn) page 39: auth…

Wanted to add my thanks as well. Really a great app, easily the most functional and best looking one on Android. Hope two-way PDF sync is added at some point, although I understand that it is a tall order.

Further testing reveals that the expected output (correct "first-reference-note-number" per chapter and full references upon the start of each chapter) works up to and including version 5.0.18. From version 5.0.19 I get a different output, see this…

UPDATE: I managed to install version 5.0.14 of the LibreOffice integration, and it works as I describe. In other words, I have now isolated the issue to the LibreOffice extension changes since then. Here is a very simple document with referenced up…

Thanks for clearing up my use of the term "cross-reference". Yes, I am indeed certain that this did work in LO. I see from a lot of forum post that this is not the case in Word. But, as I wrote above, I have been using this functionality continuous…

Using the "Heading 1" style for each new chapter, in combination with the "per chapter" option for footnote numbering in LibreOffice.
-
Yes, I see the same issue with a new document, where I insert just a few citations as a test: - Full citations are not given when a reference is first cited in a new chapter. - Cross-references (n ...) are given as if footnote numbering (or "counti…

After a closer look at the edits made to the OSCOLA style in January, it seems unlikely that it is the culprit. But I see that the Zotero LibreOffice plugin has had extensive edits over the summer that concern footnote numbering: https://github.com/…

A workaround is to copy the PDF(s) you already have added to the item. Thereafter, add the PDF that you wish to have as the "primary" PDF first. Then add all other PDFs you wish to keep under that item.

*bump* Seeing the same issue on Linux (Ubuntu), but not on Windows. Will this be fixed?
-
Hi @Maguelone Though I only had one or two citations to text in a table in my thesis, it worked as expected (footnote, not in-text) using the OSCOLA style for Zotero and LibreOffice (w/plugin). I did not use master/chapter documents, though, so yo…

No problem, I'll just insert it manually for the couple of sources it is applicable to. Just needed an answer, and that you have dilligently given me. Thanks again for providing great support :-)

Sorry to nag, but I just wanted to know whether the comma will be added soon? (I submit my thesis Wednesday, and if it is not added, I have to make a note to manually put it in at the very end.)

Thank you so much for taking the time to do these fixes. Chapter pinpoints work flawlessly! On the manuscript formatting, I think what you have now is actually perfect. That is because the manuscript type may sometimes contain a year (e.g. Universi…

Could you fix the chapter pinpoint issue then, too? See my post above (13 january): https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/267745/#Comment_267745

PS: For some styles Zotero auto-converts quotation marks depending on the locale set: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/4543/single-quote-marks-from-quotes-formatting-element (see the most recent post in that thread, by @adamsmith )

Note that you only need to disconnect the codes on a copy, though. So you can just do that the day you submit, find/replace, and then toss away the field-code-free copy. Your original document, with codes, (but wrong quotation marks) can be kept for…
-
@adamsmith (Just a gentle reminder, as requested.)
-
Are you using Word? If so, a workaround would be, just before submission, (AND AFTER MAKING A COPY OF YOUR THESIS) to remove all the field codes in the document. Then you can find/replace the quotation marks in all footnotes and submit the thesis wi…

I submit on the 1st of March. So if it is in place a week before that, I'm a happy man ;-)
-
Sorry for nagging, but I just wondered whether there was any ETA/progress on the chapter pinpoints and the manuscripts item type. (Asking because my thesis will be submitted in a couple of weeks, and I am therefore charting out the things I need to…

Great! (PS: I guess polite argument on the internet is difficult, it's so easy to be misread. Good to hear I was not this time ;-) )

Thanks for fixing the bug of the missing "ch"! On "manuscipt", I see your points, but I still think the suggested change is compatible with both of them: 1) There would be no status quo change. There is no need to touch the output of "Report" in O…
-
I also came across a small bug in the OSCOLA style today; pinpoint citations to chapters are not rendering correctly on subsequent cites. To reproduce: cite a book in Libreoffice, choosing "chapter" from the drop-down menu and entering the chapter …

Fantastic news, thanks for taking the time to answer! I will just decline the upgrade until the thesis is submitted, as it is likely to be a for a period of a couple of weeks (provided that Zotero 5.0 releases before March, that is).
-
@adamsmith : Report appears to give the right output, if the research papers series is given in the "Report Type" field, and the number in the "Report number" field. The output is as follows: John M Finnis, ‘On Public Reason’ (2006) Oxford Legal Stu…

@LiborA : That's exactly the kind of think I fear, and why I don't intend to upgrade. But my question remains: Will we be prompted for the upgrade? Or will the upgrade be automatic? If the latter is the case: can I do anything to "block" the upgrad…

I have another suggestion for "low-hanging fruit"-improvement to OSCOLA; correct styling of working papers. This is what the OSCOLA manual (4th edn) says about such papers: Working papers may be available online on institution websites and on sites…
