Are you using Zotero client (in Firefox or Standalone) or the zotero.org website? You can only retrieve metadata from the client, but "uploading" should work in either. If you're using the client, see https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems

If you place your cursor in the bibliography and click "Edit Bibliography" does anything happen (don't actually edit anything)? Have you tried removing and re-inserting the bibliography?
