Could you perform the step 8 of debugging broken documents and find a small snippet of the document that reproduces the issue, then send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread? It might be the case that you need to leave in 2 or 3 parts…

Does the original document "repair" if you restart Zotero?
-
There is no way to reconnect the references, but you could try merging the changes from the editor's version back into your original document and refreshing then.
-
Do you know what helped fixing it?
-
You should be on version 5.0.55 of the connector currently. If you do, then every time you paste a copied or cut citations Zotero should display an overlay over a document indicating that it is updating your citations. Cutting and pasting citations …

I can reproduce and created a ticket. This should be fixed relatively soon. Thanks for the report.

Does it work in a new Google Docs document? Could you submit a couple of Report IDs: one from Zotero, the other from the Zotero Connector?
-
I've created an issue. Thanks for the suggestion @djross3

What version of Word are you on? Have you tried restarting your Mac?
-
Restart your browser and Zotero, try inserting a citation in a new document and confirm whether it works or not.
-
Depends on the length of the document and the number of citations. How big is it?

If Office is installed when Zotero is first launched then Zotero will install the Zotero.dotm file into Word startup folder. However if Office is installed after running Zotero for the first time then the plugin install needs to either be triggered …

I have updated the function in the link above. You can try it again.

What version of Word are you using? You should make sure it is up to date. Does it work well in a new document?

What versions of Chrome and Firefox are you testing on? Do you have any other extensions in those?

Is there a link to a page, or a text with a link at the start of the document? Could you try removing it temporarily and refreshing? Otherwise, could you place the cursor in an existing link in a document, editing it with Google Docs, and then placi…

Have you tried refreshing the page?

I do not know what is going on in the Debug ID you have submitted. It seems that you triggered a command in one document, an error was returned and Zotero (tried to?) display a prompt, which you didn't dismiss, after which you tried triggering the i…

If you cannot enable macros in the document then you will indeed need to talk to IT about it. They might not be willing to enable all macros, so you should ensure you have Zotero.dotm, not Zotero.dot installed in your startup folder, which has its m…

Making copies of the document should not cause any issues, although Google Docs has not been tested as much as Word and LibreOffice have over the years, so anomalies are possible. I have been successfully copying google docs while preserving citing …

Could you troubleshoot for when this problem first started? 1. Go into the document revision history (File -> Version History -> See Version History) 2. Find a revision somewhere in the middle of the long list of revisions. Click the "..." i…

Do you use any other Google Docs extensions or plugins on this document?

What is the error you see in your original document? Could you submit a Report ID from Zotero Connector?
-
Not an answer to your question, but Zotero provides proper Google Docs integration, like the one in Word if you install the Zotero Connector for your browser.
-
Could you provide a specific URL for which the save fails?
-
You will see the "Zotero is updating your document, please wait" prompt when you are copying and pasting Zotero citations. This did not work properly before and potentially lead to citations getting disconnected from Zotero and not being updated pro…

You should note which word processor you use. The grey shades in Word and LibreOffice are there to indicate fields, but in Google Docs it's an indicator of citations inserted with automatic citation updates unchecked (in Zotero document preferences)…

Great news and thanks for all the testing! The change is now available in the stable Connector release for both Firefox and Chrome
