Reinstalling won't affect the citations. Does it work well in a new document? You could try the debugging broken documents instructions.

What version of Word are you running (the full version number)? Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for attempting a document operation with autosaving enabled which produces an error?
-
Restart Zotero and Chrome. In a google doc, press the Zotero button (or select Zotero -> Add/Edit Citation). If nothing appears after a few seconds, look through Zotero windows (in the windows bar) and see if a dialog had opened but did not pop u…

All text-flow behavior is controlled by LibreOffice, you should try contacting their user support.

The reference list uses the "Bibliography" style, so you should modify that if you want the bibliography to appear differently. Zotero sets the Bibliography style to the appropriate one for the citation style upon starting citing (or when switching …

@c.hughes could you submit a Report ID from Zotero after experiencing the error updating?
-
@AndySymons let's keep the discussion in this thread for the indexing problems. As for your suggestions, unfortunately 4 and 5 are unfeasible due to technical reasons.

I don't know if Google Docs itself is fully bug-free, especially when multiple collaborators edit, or when using less common features, so it could have just "got corrupted". If you've used other Google Docs plugins, they could have had an impact. Ev…

Excellent! If you're able to cut down the document significantly (without removing the bibliography) and reproduce the final refresh error, we would also like to see that snippet (support@zotero.org). Otherwise thanks for helping with debugging this…

Ideally you should only be running indexing after finalizing the document, at least in terms of Zotero citations, as whenever Zotero will need to update your citations for whatever reason (whether it's disambiguation, changed metadata in your Zotero…

@AndySymons Download the Zotero Beta and see whether you can update your document (or at least that broken snippet to start) with it.
-
@squarebottle To chime in from an actual dev of the "first-class" integrations. Firstly, we have the docs which, while maybe not the best formatted and crystal clear, should at least give a good idea for doc editor developers on what they need to pr…

So you're hitting some really bizzare errors that might indicate that the doc is corrupted on the Google Docs end. This is really rare and I believe I've only seen it happen once before your report. Are you sure it doesn't work in a copy of the docu…

Thanks for sending in the snippet. Could you also send in the citation style you are using, since it doesn't seem to be one of the default styles from Zotero style repositories? In general, Zotero is certainly not happy with the index entries that …

Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero and the Zotero Connector? You should enable debug logging on both first, then perform whatever action causes the error (and click through any dialogs) and finally submit the two debug IDs from Zotero and the …

Go through the debugging broken documents instructions.

If you open Document Preferences in the Zotero plugin do you store citations as ReferenceMarks or Bookmarks? Bookmarks have a tendency to go corrupt and produce this sort of erratic behavior, and you have to be much more careful about editing text a…

Does it not appear if you try to search by publication date or title instead? Do you see it if you switch to the classic citation dialog (by clicking on the Z icon in the citation interface)?
-
The first thing to do is to update Word to the latest version before doing more thorough troubleshooting.
-
Is there any reason you are on Word for Mac 16.30? The newest version is 16.38. Have you tried updating?
-
Does inserting citations fail in a new document? Does it matter which citation style you use?
-
See the link dstillman posted. LibreOffice needs to know the path to your JRE installation otherwise the plugin won't work.
-
Yep. Only registering text changes to citations should be doable, but involves quite a bit more work and testing, so perhaps sometime later in the future.
-
You should try updating Word 2011, but if you're already on the latest version and it still doesn't work, then you will have to either update to Word 2016 or later, or manually insert the citations you need in tables.

Did you submit this Report ID after producing a crash of Word? Does it happen every time you try to convert the citation style? Have you tried after restarting your computer? Could you follow step 10 of debugging broken documents instructions and se…

@enozkan The fix is now available for Word for Mac. Let us know if you have any problems with it.
-
See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#installation_error You need to make sure that LibreOffice has a JRE available and selected.

I haven't tried, mainly because the GDocs plugin is rather different in how it works compared to the Word/LO ones, and is comparatively brittle, so I didn't even explore that. We technically have access to everything the user does, because we simula…
