Ok. If you ever run into this again, please follow the instructions above to generate debug information.

@davidflorianjr So from what you're describing this seems like a freeze in Google Docs. Is this reproducible every time? Have you tried disabling other extensions in Chrome and see whether it fixes it?
-
No, a reset of styles won't help. You should make sure you can refresh the bibliography on a final document though, so if you provide a Debug ID and do some troubleshooting with us we might be able to get it working for you.

The workaround that will save you the most time and headache is to try and refresh this document with a Windows PC if you have access to one. Unfortunately Word for Mac integration is very slow and we are pretty much out of options in what we can do…

You probably have field shading set to display when selected. See https://wordribbon.tips.net/T006107_Controlling_Field_Shading.html

Everything has been fine, including moving blocks of text that did not reorder refs. I just tried adding a ref that required re-ordering. I assume you use a numeric style and when you say "reordering" you expect the citation numbers to change based …

Restart Zotero and Word and try again. Do other actions (like inserting a citation) work? If they do and inserting a bibliography still fails submit a Report ID
-
I can't make it any more repeatable than that If you cannot isolate this to a single repeatable action, hopefully in a more compact document (by e.g. trimming it down with step 10 from debugging broken documents) then we will not be able to fix it, …

The previous log contained multiple operations. A refresh that completed successfully followed by an attempt to insert a bibliography which failed and seems to have displayed an error message properly, followed by another attempt to insert a bibliog…

Do you have any other extensions related to Google Docs installed in your browser? You should start by disabling them and restarting the browser. If it does not help provide a Report ID.

1. Did the previous log tell you why there was a false error report? There seem to be multiple types of errors occurring, but it is unclear whether they have the same source or not. We can only target one specific reproducible issue at a time so tha…

Regarding (2), at the bottom of the tag selector click on the menu icon and uncheck "Display All Tags in This Library".

1. The "reject all" preference could be turned on or off, so anyone wanting to be alerted to changes can turn it off. That would also be the default. It would always be on during automatic refresh. I would be cautious to claim that even an advanced …

@trichner @brie%20gettleson @Jmklopp Do you still see this? When the freeze happens, if you click on the Zotero window in the dock does the citation window appear immediately?
-
Can you repeat this operation with the debug logging enabled (if you get the same error) and submit a log? Make sure that no Word operations are running already (e.g. restart Zotero before doing this). Looking at your previously submitted log the u…

The 'Always Reject' preference setting is my preferred solution. I am not sure why you are calling it 'hidden'? I suggest it be in the Zotero Document Preferences pane, easily accessible from WORD, where one selects the citation type, footnotes or e…

We'll look at this at some point in the intermediate future. There are some technical reasons why it isn't displayed on macOS, but maybe we can improve this somehow, since what you're describing indeed sounds painful. I've created an issue to track …

We'd very much like to improve the way modified citations and relevant dialogs are handled, but cannot due to technical reasons. We are limited with the buttons in dialogs display in Word to "Yes/No/(Cancel)" or "OK/Cancel", which is also why the wo…

Ok, so osascript is the command that runs AppleScript scripts, which is also what Zotero Word plugin uses to interact with Zotero. What causes the error you see is system specific, and while some people do fix it by reinstalling macOS, others, if yo…

Next time you use Zotero for citing and/or testing this issue could you run it by opening the Terminal and running "/Applications/Zotero.app/Contents/MacOS/zotero -ZoteroDebugText" instead. When you run into this issue, go into the terminal window a…
-
If you open the Terminal and paste osascript -e "display dialog \"test\"" into it and press Enter do you get a dialog that says "test"?
-
You should make a copy of Zotero.dotm somewhere (e.g. your Desktop), open it with Word, then open the Visual Basic editor and replace the line that triggered the error with MacScript "display dialog ""test"" " Then try running any of the Zotero m…

Did you open Zotero.dotm directly with Word (step 1)? Do you have 2 entries for "Project (Zotero)"? Can you expand either? Can you perform the above steps for at least one of them?
-
If you're willing to do some advanced troubleshooting: 1. Open Zotero.dotm directly in Word. 2. Allow running macros 3. In the Developer tab click Visual Basic 4. In the left sidebar select the 2nd Project (Zotero) and open the Zotero code file fro…
-
@mstyang Note that if you went to the point directly before Zotero turned your citations red to indicate that they are unlinked - that's the wrong point. As dstillman noted above (and so have I, before), that is only the point where Zotero had "noti…

You might want to try saving the document somewhere closer to your User directory, like on Desktop or in Documents and use a shorter simpler name without spaces and see whether that has any effect.

Is this a lab computer or your personal university computer? Did you install Zotero yourself on it? Does anyone else in the university have a similar issue? It could very well be some issue with account settings, since we haven't seen anything like …
-
If you restore the document to that point and refresh the document does the unlinking still happen? What about if you insert that same citation that you believe has caused this? (You should probably create a copy of your current version of the docum…
-
Yes. I'll see whether I can get the Word plugin do output some more detailed debugging information about this and get back to you shortly, but in the meantime could you create a new User Account on this computer and see whether it works correctly th…

You may ignore the times and dates. Did you press Refresh in Rotview? Did you try to use Zotero after the save and confirm it wasn't working? Basically we're looking to see if there's any change to the path in Rotview after the change that makes Zot…
