Is the document saved on OneDrive? Did you try saving it on the local disk and/or saving it without spaces in the filename?
-
If nothing at all happens (i.e. you don't get errors or dialogs), look through all open Zotero windows, sometimes a citation dialog gets burried under other windows. If it isn't there restart Zotero and try again. Also see the troubleshooting instru…

We'll need more info about said configuration? What OS'es, which versions of Word, Zotero, etc? Also submit a Report ID from the system where you are seeing the problem.
-
Do the text and search fields get populated with anything when you try to cite with Zotero in the beta? If they do, what happens if you press Enter? If you open a new link popup manually, can you close it by pressing the Escape key on your keyboard?
-
@Mmanierre @adampricehydro @Joby We have pushed a change to the Zotero Connector Beta that addresses the issues you're seeing. It only works in Firefox. Could you install the Beta Connector and see whether it's fixed for you?
-
You should run through the debugging broken documents steps. You will likely need to do step 10. If you can send us a broken excerpt we will take a look.
-
It might help if instead of minimizing Zotero when switching to another app you simply switch to it without clicking the "-" icon. Otherwise, this isn't a general problem, so there is something about your workflow or other software configuration tha…

@Mmanierre If you try to manually insert a link (i.e. turn some text into a hyperlink) do you get the same popup?
-
@affa I looked at the document and it seems that there is a bug in Zotero that breaks citation insertion when there are quotation marks in the URL field of an item being cited. In your case it's the "Askeland, Norunn, og Magdalena Agdestein. 2019" a…

Could you share a copy of a document where you can reproduce this with support@zotero.org?
-
If you remove everything but a few pages from the document does it still occur? Do you have suggestions on the document?
-
Does this happen in a new document for you? Do you have other Google Docs plugins installed?
-
Is this document saved on OneDrive? Does it work with documents saved on the local disk? What about if you save to OneDrive without spaces in the document name?
-
@affa what citation style are you using?
-
@biankavonlonski I've tested the documents you've sent us and unfortunately cannot reproduce the problem. We have had a couple of other reports of similar problems with Mac Word recently, but we don't have a way to troubleshoot them without reproduc…

See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/existing_citations_not_detected
-
If the problem doesn't occur on every attempt to cite things that might help are: 1. Restarting your Mac 2. Closing any unnecessary apps 3. Updating to the latest version of macOS 4. Updating to the latest version of Word
-
For this test document, do you reproduce the problem consistently? If so, do you reproduce it regardless of the item that you cite? Could you send this document to support@zotero.org and mark the position where the attempt to insert fails?
-
This is a setting under Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors. Untick the checkbox for the classic dialog.
-
How many pages and how many Zotero citations? Is the problem always intermittent or can you reproduce it consistently with some documents? Can you reproduce the problem without copying the text of your existing document into a new doc?
-
@laura_bizzarri @wc3campo We've pushed an update to the Beta. Could you reinstall/update the Zotero Beta and see whether the integration works well?
-
@biankavonlonski How big is the document? What kind and how old of a Mac are you working on?
-
If you don't mind disclosing your username on this computer, what is the result of ls -la "/Users/$USER/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/.zoteroIntegrationPipe" in the terminal?
-
Dragging text is not supported with Zotero citations. We have no way to support that unfortunately. Copy-pasting should work fine though. If you're not dragging the text, please provide more information about how you got the citations to unlink.
-
Could you copy the full error message here? You should try following the instructions from the links in my previous message.
-
The plugin install should still happen even if you have Word open (or Zotero thinks it does), so the message you see shouldn't cause the problem. See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_toolbar_doesn_t_appear …
-
Have you tried restarting your computer and trying to reinstall the plugin? What operating system? Reinstalling Office certainly won't help.
-
Could you open the Zotero Beta, an empty Microsoft Word document, run the below command in the Terminal.app and say what the result is? PIPE="$HOME/.zoteroIntegrationPipe"; if [ ! -e "$PIPE" ]; then PIPE="/Users/$USER/Library/Containers/com.microsof…

Do you have any other plugins in Word aside from Zotero? Does it happen in a new document?
-
You need to look at the Footnote style in Word, which likely has a large top margin set.
