The change is now available in the Zotero Beta. Let us know if it works for you.
-
Ok, we will have a change for this available to test with the Zotero Beta within the next 24 hours. If you want to try it out before then you can download Zotero.dotm and Zotero.scpt from our Github repo. You need to place the Zotero.dotm file accor…

@jintrone Good find. I'll look into amending the Zotero Word template so we will fix this for all.
-
Does this happen with a new document? If not, does it happen if you remove and reinsert the bibliography? If it does, can you reproduce it by removing everything but a page or two of the original document and some citations? If you can, could you sh…
-
What citation style are you using?
-
Zotero does not in any way interact with Word except during citation insertion or document update (i.e. refresh, style change or similar). Unless you have a running Zotero operation in the background, which seems like you don't, this is simply a Wor…
-
Can you still insert citations into this document? "Nothing" certainly wouldn't be something that happens, so there's likely a problem of communication between Zotero and Word. Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for a click on Unlink? You shou…
-
This is most likely this is caused by either Zotero or Word running as administrator. Make sure that both run as current user. See how to know if a process is running as administrator
-
Did you install the Zotero Connector Beta? It is only available for Firefox, but the Debug ID you have sent us is from Google Chrome. Also please post all troubleshooting information here. The email address is only for sending us private information.
-
@lexi_GC Ok we have pushed a fix for this error for the Zotero Connector Beta. Could you try testing that version and confirming that you can update your documents properly now?
-
Yeah, sorry, to confirm, dragging text does indeed break citations. Unfortunately we don't have a way to work around that.
-
If you could follow the step 10 of debugging broken documents instructions and isolate a small portion of the document that causes the error please share it with support@zotero.org. Otherwise you'll need to figure out which comments or suggestions c…

What writing software are you using? Did your colleague use Zotero to insert their citations?
-
You can fix the template by going into Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors and reinstalling the Word plugin. If this happens again it is likely be caused by security software on your computer
-
How long have you allowed Zotero to stay open in the unresponsive state before closing it? Could you create a shortcut to Zotero on your desktop, right-click it and select Properties, then append -console -ZoteroDebugText to the "Target" field, th…
-
Ok, so the Google Docs version history should allow you to see a change to either the whole document, or just Zotero citations at some point between the last version the citations are linked in and unlinked. If you can identify that action and repro…
-
By "linked" I do not mean that the Zotero citations are still black (not red for unlinked), but where performing a Zotero operation (even opening the doc prefs window) does not lead to them turning red (unlinked). If that's true for a version of the…
-
@nimrauko You'll need to go further back in the document history for that. Zotero only detects unlinked citations when you interact with the plugin, like attempting to add a citation or similar. You should look back through the history to see whethe…

For Google Docs see https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/374370/#Comment_374370 . You should either wait for the updated extension for Chrome or switch to Firefox temporarily. Running into the storage limit is unrelated and does not affect c…
-
Your version of Windows didn't come with English language preinstalled? It's unlikely to help, but switching both Windows and Word to English (US) temporarily for testing is worth trying.
-
Inserting a specific citation could potentially be the cause of this, although the probability of that is very unlikely. Just certain items being in Zotero couldn't cause this sort of crashing. Does this computer have the same version of Word on it?…
-
This is a Report ID from Zotero, could you produce one from the Zotero Connector?
-
@curleyk Could you submit a Report ID from the Zotero Connector?
-
Could you submit a Report ID from the Zotero Connector and provide full steps on what you're doing and what goes wrong?

We have addressed some of these before, but to reiterate: 1. I have personally spent a large amount of time on trying to make the macOS version as fast as possible, but there is so much you can do when you are ultimately at the hands of the Apple a…
-
Right, so if it worked with both windows showing, then very likely the reason for this issue is the fairly new macOS "App Nap" feature. macOS significantly reduces the amount of CPU time the programs that are not displayed on the screen can use. The…

Sorry, we've spent a lot of time troubleshooting your problems, and in general, Mac Word has been really problematic over the past half a year, so I've spent a lot of time helping others, and so its hard to keep track of everything that everyone has…

You really should consider refreshing/editing this document as multiple separate chapters, which should help to display all error messages correctly. Otherwise you can see the debug output under Help -> Debug Output Logging -> View Output.
-
We'll release an update with the fix on Chrome and let you know on this thread. Chrome extension review takes a while.
