Could you produce a Debug ID from Zotero for an attempt to sync on the laptop?
-
If you can reproduce this problem consistently in some portion of the document please share it with support@zotero.org and we'll see what we can do.
-
Word should be more reliable, especially on Windows. It's somewhat slower on macOS, but still should be relatively better than Google Docs.
-
@evafillion Are you using any other Google Docs extensions besides Zotero?
-
@mariannlyngstad You have 300 citations in this Google Doc. Presumably that's a fairly long document. Unfortunately Google Docs is quite slow with long documents. The editor itself starts slowing down, and something built on top of that, like the Zo…

The file imports fine for me, after saving it as .odt with LibreOffice 6.4.0.3. You should use .odt for LibreOffice and .docx for Word. .docx for LibreOffice won't work. What version of LibreOffice are you using?
-
Have you tried restarting your browser and Zotero?
-
Could you submit a Report ID from Zotero? Can you reproduce this with a smaller version of the same document? Say if you cut your original Google Doc to a couple of pages? If so, can you share the cut-down failing version with support@zotero.org?
-
That's a separate issue, but the dialog guides you through your options and you can override the document lock if you believe nobody else is actually editing it.

What's the full version number of Word? Does it work well in a new document? Could you submit a Report ID? You can work around it by inserting the footnote manually via Word and the inserting the Zotero citation, but generally Zotero shouldn't fail…

This isn't possible. Google Docs citations are already based on hyperlinks (you can check that by placing the cursor in a Zotero citation and opening the link dialog from the toolbar) as that's the best technical tool we have as an extension develop…
-
@Olib170 You should make sure that you modify the font size in the default document style instead of manually in the paragraph. Zotero inserts text that has accents differently than one without it due to technical reasons and the former is more lik…

Make sure that you are using the most recent file version for the template, but otherwise it's hard to tell. Presumably your template prevents any field insertion (including things like date, page numbers, etc) so you could try looking into that.
-
The macOS integration is not limited by the size of field codes but a more general inefficiency of the available API and thus by size of document, number of fields and number of operations performed during a document update. The field data is stored…

See the debugging broken documents, particularly step 10.

@mavers Can you produce a smaller version of the document where you can reproduce the problem? Please mark the location where the insertion fails in the document and make sure that it fails regardless of the item you choose to insert.
-
Restart Zotero and your browser and try again.
-
Can you make a copy of the document (via the File menu) and reduce the document to a small snippet where the issue is still reproduced, then share that with support@zotero.org?
-
Also make sure that you are not editing your document in any way while Zotero is working with it.
-
Does it matter which item you cite or is it broken with every item? Could you create a new macOS User Account and see whether citing with Zotero works there?
-
Does it work in a new document? If not, see debugging broken documents
-
@mevers if you can reproduce the issue in a small sample document please send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.

We are unable to read document contents properly with the standard review views, which is why the plugin temporarily switches to a different view for document processing. There is no way to avoid this.
-
Does removing and re-adding bibliography help? If not, does removing every instance of the problematic item and then reinserting help? Does restarting Zotero help?
-
There isn't any progress to be made on Zotero's part. You can try contacting your security software support and seeing whether they have any advice. Usually security software allows adding applications to exception lists, although given that this is…

There are multiple updates since my last post: 1. We have managed to get through to some Microsoft developers which might help us drastically improve the performance and battery use of the plugin in a few years time, although it will require a sign…

That is not a Report ID. Please follow the link in my previous post for the instructions on how to submit a Report ID.

Please do not create multiple threads for the same issue. You can edit your existing messages or just add new ones to existing threads. Could you submit a Report ID after the error occurs? You want to make sure you are running Zotero 5.0.96.2, whic…

Is the error message from the attempt to manually install via LibreOffice? If so this could be security software on your computer interfering, or corruption of your LibreOffice profile, in which case you should remove it, restart LibreOffice and att…

What happens when you try to install the plugin manually?
