The behaviour for them is the same (should be, and seems to be for me). Any url of the form /groups///... ignores the name entirely and just relies on groupID. urls with only the groupID or only the group name redirect.

I generally expect this to be an issue you syncing with a different account than you're logging into the website to check your storage usage with. Make sure you're using the same credentials in your Zotero client's sync settings.
