Read Aloud keeps loading indefinitely

    [ISSUE] I'm trying to use the standard version for a first test on a research paper. I'm on a Linux system. After I click the read aloud button the feature keeps loading indefinitely (plus the drop down menu is frozen on premium selection)

    Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through reproducing this, using the Help → Debug Output Logging → "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

    Here's the debug ID : D1591670690 ; I've logged out, logged in to recreate the issue like the first time it happened after configuring the first subscription-selection popup (otherwise it wasn't showing anything related to tts in the debug report)

    PS: I tried it on windows, works perfectly

    Could you open Zotero Settings → Advanced → Config Editor and paste the value of "extensions.zotero.reader.readAloudVoices" here?

    Experiencing the same issue on Linux Ubuntu. The exact same library performs perfectly with the new Read Aloud feature on Windows.

    I'm having the same issues. Works fine in Windows, and Ubuntu keeps spinning.

    Same here on fedora with the following value for the mentioned config:

    I also looked at the output log when I click the button and it seems that it is fetching the info correctly, but cannot use/display it.

    Same issue on Ubuntu. I click on the headphones and it infinitely loads. I can't click to change from Standard>Premium>Local either. Logged in and out multiple times, as well as installing and reinstalling the app. Praying for a fix sometime soon as I start school in September.

    @AbeJellinek Is there any update on this issue? Did anyone find a fix/workaround for this problem yet? It still persists for me in Zotero 10.0, and it seems like it affects a lot of people. I would like to know if any Linux user here had no problem with this feature, and if so, what distribution they are using

    Having same issue too it worked fine for a few days now suddenly it no longer works at all ive reinstalled and reset the flatpak version multiple times and nothing fixes it.

    It works on one of my Fedora users (Flatpak version) after I installed a separate beta version of Zotero from a tar.xz file. On that same computer, on other Fedora users, it does not work.

    This should be fixed now in Zotero 10.0.2, available via Help → "Check for Updates…".

    @dstillman now the Premium and Norm Voices work for me as well, thank you! The local option, however, is greyed out for me, is that on purpose to make the functionality work, or is that a bug? If so I would open another issue with a report

    @T0b1: Were local voices working before? The bug here was that when the system speech dispatcher wasn't working it was breaking Read Aloud altogether. The fix shouldn't have changed that — it should just let Standard and Premium voices work properly. Fixing speech-dispatcher would still be necessary for Local voices to work.

    @dstillman it did, sometimes, but like with the Norm and Premium Voices I did not find a pattern why it suddenly worked. Generally speech-dispatcher does work for me though, I configured it using Pied. I believe that the problem might be in the language codes, since when I reset extensions.zotero.firstRunGuidanceShown.readAloud and extensions.zotero.reader.readAloudVoices in the first run guidance it says "Local Voices do not support [language]", for every language in the list. It is however very possible that I broke this functionality while trying to troubleshoot the original issue, I will try a complete reinstallation in few days and will see if the problem persists.
