Erratic renaming behavior Zotfile

Zotero 5.0.88
Zotfile 5.0.16
Firefox 77.0.1
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

When I use the Zotero connector to download a journal article from a publisher's website, Zotfile works as expected--it renames the file to my specified format and saves it in the specified file. However, if I create an entry, for instance from a blog or website, and then attempt to attach a file either using Add Attachment/Attach Stored Copy of File or by manually copying the file to my library and using Add Attachment/Attach Link to File, it renames the file in a different format. I also do not see the Zotfile popup when this happens, but I do see it when I download the journals. Changing the Type to Journal Article does not correct the behavior. In Zotfile Preferences, Use Zotero to Rename is NOT checked. If I select a Zotero entry and click Update in Zotfile preferences, the preview uses the correct format, but then when I actually attach it, Zotero uses the wrong one.
  • The options "Attach Stored Copy of File…" and "Attach Link to File…" are part of Zotero's Attachment Menu. When attaching files through this menu, files should be renamed using Zotero's own renaming options by default. With the settings here, Zotfile should be able to automatically move and rename files when using "Attach Stored Copy of File…".

You could also use Zotfile's "Attach New File" function. It can grab files from a source folder, e.g., your Downloads folder, see here. This can be useful for attaching a website as a pdf file, see here.

(BTW, you can set Zotfile to work with additional file types such as HTML in "Tools" -> "ZotFile Preferences" -> "Advanced Settings" -> "Only work with the following filetypes".)
