ZOTERO ISSUES

SINCE THE LAUNCH OF 5.0 I HAVE NOT FOUND ZOTERO USABLE , HAVING PREVIOUSLY FOUND IT VERY EASY INDEED IN CITATION AND REFERENCING.
I have not been able to connect with the Word Plug- in despite having tried the various solutions recommended .It isn't installing , as advertised , with my Chrome -Zotero extension
Nor have I been able to get Zotero to download references to the Z library ,or to show any icons to show the type of reference being found by my browser .I have a good laptop and use Windows 10.
Any advice? Is there a relaunch/re-start that will sort this out ?
  • You have stopped following up on either of the two threads that tried to help you troubleshoot these issues. (please don't use all caps)
  • Sorry and apologies about caps - used in frustration- but Zotero is not working for me and I'm having to look again at End note or Mendelely as alternatives- which would be a great pity as Zotero was so very good and I have told many people about it .
I didn't understand all the advice which was offered but am very willing to start again . There are 4 issues :
    1. Zotero doesn't show, as it did, icons to discriminate the nature of the references found by Chrome,
    2. Zotero doesn't save to library,as before
    3. Word plug- in doesn't work automatically via the Chrome extension
    4. I couldn't get it either by the,for me, complex manual installation instructions.

If 2 and 3 could be resolved then it would be great

I would appreciate your help and I do understand that this is a free service offered by volunteers
  • It's really much easier if you follow up with any questions about the advice you received in the two separate threads that cover all of these issues, i.e. issues 1 and 2 (which are almost certainly the same problem) here : https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/67108/zotero-not-saving-to-library#latest

and issue 3 (and 4, which isn't really a separate issue) here:

  • When I try to download Zotero link to word it says that an error has occurred and that I should close MS word .I'm not sure what that means .Does it mean close a current word file or does it mean I should close the word program altogether ?I've tried to do both of these in the past few days and none work
  • Sorry, but we really want you to follow up on your original threads to have all information in one place.
  • ok - I'm ready to have a try at that.What shall I do first ?
  • Go here https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/67208/zotero-missing-from-word-ribbon#latest, follow bwiernik's instructions in his last post, then report (in that thread, not here) what is and isn't happening.
