Sync Issue

Error report 2060165164

Also with this message in Z:

Component returned failure code: 0x8052000d (NS_ERROR_FILE_IS_DIRECTORY) [nsICryptoHash.updateFromStream]
  • 1) You're using an old version of Zotero 7. You should update to the latest version and figure out why you haven't received automatic updates in months.

    2) What are the contents of the storage/AHISXXQC folder within your data directory? Is there a folder in there? (There shouldn't be.)
  • Thanks. Will update. I have no idea why it doesn't automatically update, nor any sense of how to figure that out. But I will know to check next time.

There is a folder in storage/AHISXXQC which contains a textfile (misleadingly) labeled "PDF", full of code.

    Thanks.
  • Having run the update and tried to sync, there is still the error.

This is the debug report no from when I ran the sync. D1551957958

This is the error report text:
    Component returned failure code: 0x8052000d (NS_ERROR_FILE_IS_DIRECTORY) [nsICryptoHash.updateFromStream]

This is the error report number: 1999392321
  • Right, so if there's a folder within the AHISXXQC folder, that's the problem. Do you know how that got there? That should never happen in normal usage. Can you ZIP the entire AHISXXQC folder and email it to us at support@zotero.org?
  • Thanks. No idea how it got there, but yes I can send it to you!
  • Just to be clear, you sent a ZIP of a folder named "_" and a PDF named "pdf" within it. You're saying the "_" folder was within the AHISXXQC folder?
  • I sent a zip of the folder inside AHISXXQC. That folder is named "-" and has a document in it which it named "PDF" but has no file extension, and is identified by by my Mac as "kind: document" to be opened with the app TEXTEDIT (the default for "documents like this one".

    But no, no actual PDF.
  • The "pdf" file is a PDF. You can make ".pdf" the file extension to see what file it is.

Anyway, if you have any recollection of how you added that to Zotero, let us know.
  • (Or if you can reproduce this from the same source)
  • ok, so now that I've added the PDF extension, what I get is the latest issue of Overland magazine. I expect that what happened was that I hit the download button from inside my account page at the mag, the PDF downloaded into safari, and then I hit the save to Zotero button in Safari. I have a faint recollection of there being a hitch with it getting into Zotero, and then deciding to download to my downloads folder and then drag and drop into Zotero. I can see the item in Zotero, but when I try to open it from within Zotero it doesn't (even since adding the ".pdf" file extension.

Would it help if I delete the item and start again from scratch?

Yes, you should delete the AHISXXQC folder, delete the attachment item (or parent item), and empty the trash. And then you should see if you can reproduce this.
  • Thanks.
All working again and no error messages.
I could not reproduce the problem, but here is the report from when I re-added the document afresh: D1693174395.

There was a residual problem which I have resolved manually: the two or three items added to Z since the sync issue appeared would not sync from my Mac to my iPad app (which is the latest beta) even after the folder had been removed and the error warnings disappeared. So I simply deleted them and re-added them. Sync is working now.
