  1. New pdf files in my computer

    by bwiernik · July 13, 2019
Instead, I recommend you save items using the Save to Zotero button in your browser. This will save the PDF and get better item data than is possible by dragging a PDF file in. If you want to use link

Love Zotero and Zotfile. Hopefully this is a quick question. When I export a note, there are what I believe to be unicode items in. For example, an exported annotation from a PDF file (using Zotfile)

I’m trying to use Zotfile’s tablet mode but am encountering two issues.
  4. Annotation app for iPad Pro

    by adamsmith · July 9, 2019
Zotero is developing it's own iOS app, but until that is released, using some version of ZotFile's send to tablet and Dropbox (or another sync folder) is probably the easiest solution.
  5. I think I misunderstood Zotfile! Library is split in two different places.

    by klstanton · July 8, 2019
The best way to fix this problem is to copy all the files from GDrive into a folder in my Downloads, where Zotfile knows to go look and move and rename, and to look up the files in Zotero and drag and

If you use Manage Attachments --> Rename ZotFile will move those back. Unfortunately that only works for individual items -- the batch functionality is broken in ZotFile (I believe -- worth trying)

So I only need the GDrive location in the second tab of settings for Zotfile, correct?

    by adamsmith · July 8, 2019
So you're doing two things -- you're having ZotFile automatically move new files to Google drive and link them (that's the custom location in the general tab of the preferences) _and_ you use the Sent

I added a third screenshot to the folder: when I clicked Show File on the top citation in the Zotero window, this is where it directed me, which is the folder on my Google Drive that sits on my deskto

I have double checked my settings a million times! It was ME, not Zotfile, who was actually putting the PDFs there at some point in the beginning, I think, and then dragging them into Zotero to connec

Send to Tablet should only ever copy files, so this is weird. Could you take screenshots of the two first screens of your ZotFile preferences, upload them to a free image hosting site (imgur, Dropbox,

So, I have been using Zotero happily for two years! I recently hit my storage limit, and I also bought an iPad. I wanted to take advantage of Zotfile's nifty way of syncing with tablets.
  13. Can I use Google Drive to backup Zotero instead of upgrading?

    by dstillman · July 7, 2019
This may still be a misunderstanding, though. ZotFile helps moves your attachments to the cloud storage folder, but it doesn't make a backup of your Zotero database, which would still be stored on you
  14. Can I use Google Drive to backup Zotero instead of upgrading?

    by bwiernik · July 7, 2019
Yes, it is fine to use Zotfile to store files in a cloud folder. What you shouldn’t do is to store the actual Zotero data directory in a cloud folder.
  15. Can I use Google Drive to backup Zotero instead of upgrading?

    by learningme · July 7, 2019
From re-reading the documentation, it seems that if I use Zotfile, this concern would be addressed, right?
  16. Each PDF is stored in a separate folder?

    by bwiernik · July 7, 2019
It’s possible to set up a human-readable file system using the Zotfile plugin, but I really suggest not trying to manage your PDF locations yourself.
  17. Advice for indexing and syncing files

    by dstillman · July 5, 2019
your files are stored. (Generally you'd set ZotFile to move files to that directory when linking them.) And that I should always leave the data directory on my hard drive, not in a cloud storage syst

    by realtime99 · July 5, 2019
One suggestion I have is implementing something like zotfile's auto-link to the pdf location of the quote. I'd actually prefer auto-linking to the Zotero parent item myself.
  19. Advice for indexing and syncing files

    by dstillman · July 5, 2019
I'm not sure what you mean by "indexing" — do you mean "linking"? — but this may be a misunderstanding. Zotero Storage is only required for syncing files between computers, not just for storing them i
  20. zotfile / dropbox / iannotate -- all markups disappeared.

    by adamsmith · July 3, 2019
Zotero doesn't touch linked files -- this most sounds like a problem with Dropbox sync or iannotate, especially since it originated on the ipad where neither Zotero nor Zotfile even exist.
