Is it possible to do this with Zotero or do I have to combine Word footnotes with Zotero citations? Sorry, I'm a newby to history formats and am turning in circles.

I'm quite certain of this because a total of six Word documents are affected. I could not have accidentally unlink the citations in all six.

Word doesn't show Toggle Field Codes on fields in footnotes, so that part isn't meaningful.

I’ve been using Zotero to insert citations into my Word document, so that any updates to my references would be reflected consistently when I click the 'Refresh' button in the Zotero add-in.

You can show/hide section breaks via that "reverse P" button in Word.

That would be a Word question, as Zotero only uses Word's footnote system.

When citing via a footnote, Zotero restarts footnote numbers on each page instead of numbering sequentially throughout the Word document. How to fix the numbering?

The strange thing is that when I opened a new document (even after quitting zotero and word) the error persisted there. The only thing that seemed to work was restarting my computer.

I've just tried to do exactly as it says that is I chose sentence case, capitalised proper names and created a footnote in a word document using Chicago 18 (shortened notes and bibliography). I got th

If the item appears in the bibliography, the citation is on a Word field. You may just have field shading turned off in Word?
