I said “workflow,” not “mechanism.” The mechanisms differ; the workflows are the same. They all, save Zotero, have a bookmarking mechanism of one kind or another. I can use Acrobat or PDF Expert to add a TOC. Using them to add temporary bookmarks w…

Okay, I just realized that such links are created whenever text is copied and pasted in Zotero, which is awesome, but it would still be useful to be able to use such (I assume `zotero://`) links outside of the app.
-
I mean, that *would* work, but it’s not the workflow in *every other PDF reader,* it’s slightly more effort (selecting a word and choosing the proper color as opposed to clicking the ‘bookmark’ icon, or using the keyboard shortcut), and now your PDF…

I think just a tool to be able to link one annotation with another to make a (seemingly-) continuous highlight would be sufficient—and extremely desirable.
-
>PDF bookmarks are named a bit misleadingly and are principally used to reflect document structure/ToC. I am very confused by this claim. The Mac Preview app, for instance, has distinct Bookmarks and Table of Contents tabs, and adding a bookmark…

Yeah, I got it to work, but in some PDFs it “misses”; it catches the word about an inch left of the one the insertion point is over.
-
Okay, that (sort of) works, as does the equivalent trackpad gesture, but what’s selected doesn’t seem to matter, and it often picks up the wrong word, and can only look up words, not phrases. That’s better than nothing, but a far cry from using the …

FYI the “Report” type seems to fit best for this purpose.
-
Fine, except that when you enter "Eldridge M. Mount III” as a full name (which is often more convenient) and then click the button to change it to ‘last, first’, you end up with “III, Eldridge M. Mount.” Which is obviously not desirable behavior. Zo…

So does this translator exist?
-
Make sure that this applies as well to straight and curly quotes.
-
Of course, immediately after I post this, I try again and it works. Still, it took many attempts.

+1

I’m seeing that the Goodreads translator does not in fact pull info from Goodreads, except the ISBN, which it then uses to find the information elsewhere. Is that really ideal behavior? Also, it should at least (as the Amazon translator does) inclu…

That does work, but is less Mac-like and I always forget it’s there. Muscle memory from other Mac apps directs me to the context menu every time.
-
The Option key doesn’t reveal the item in that collection. Having the command in the context menu is standard Mac behavior, from iTunes and other apps. If clutter is the issue, change the “Add to collection” menu item to “Collections” and include b…

I would like to renew my request for this feature in the context menu. There are actually not too many items in that menu already—13 actually isn’t a lot. And on the Mac, at least, we’re used to having this specific functionality in the context menu…

Resolved. Close.

I’ve created a [Better Notes template](https://github.com/Calorion/zotero-better-notes-reference-note-template) that allows directional linking of references. It’s…a little cumbersome, but it’s the best way I’ve discovered to make this function.
-
Bump. This would be a great feature for version 8!

Curiouser and curiouser. That book still doesn’t work, but https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22397161-the-adventures-of-tom-bombadil-and-other-verses-from-the-red-book does…however, though it does create an entry, there’s no link back to Goodreads…

I’m still having this error, though I don’t know why. Trying to import https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/210613871-the-collected-poems-of-j-r-r-tolkien consistently results in "An error occurred saving with Goodreads. Attempting to save using Embe…

I've hacked together a solution using BetterNotes.
-
So my feature request stands.
-
Also, only reference items have that sidebar feature. Standalone notes, links and files do not
-
I mean…not really? If it’s in a subcollection, it’s hard to see; you have to scroll through to find it. Maybe a mark of some kind next to the collections and subcollections it’s in, and if you select that, it jumps you there. I dunno.
-
The sidebar also doesn’t show saved searches (and shouldn’t), whereas a context menu item should.
-
I just expected to see it along with “Add to collection.” It’s more of an interface nicety (which Zotero could use more of) than a necessary feature.
-
That does indeed perform the described function (and I just learned that clicking on “My Library” takes you to that item in your library; thanks), but I was specifically asking for it in the context menu.
