Thanks @marcelparciak Thanks for the script ! Is there way to specify the master file? Like "if abstract != empty, use as master"?

Thank you to both of you! One last question: If I go with the option of keeping old citekeys in the line in , is there an efficient way to accomplish this, considering that I probably have several thousand papers (because of all the duplicates)?
-
How would that get around not breaking the existing papers? (The reason why there are so many citekeys in the first place is because the folders were copied from co-authors' libraries).
-
Sorry to clarify -- I think the "a" thing probably happens because when I re-import, there are multiple versions of the same paper that I then merge. But say I have merged the files and I change the format from author1_author2_YYYY to just author1…

Potentially different than what they were in the original collection. For example, imagine that (for example, a coauthor) used the citekey "banana." for a paper. Now in my clean collection, I actually want the citekey to be author1_author2_YYYY …

Thank you for all of your help! There are two goals: (1) if I am writing paper in LaTeX in which I already used a citekey , I don't want this citekey to change. (2) I want a "clean" version of all the works I have ever referenced -- without dupli…

Also I notice that when I'm within a collection and I "duplicate" an item, it can generate a new entry with a different citekey without affecting the previous version. So I have Paper2 "Paper 2 title" citekeypaper2 --> duplicate "Paper 2 titl…

Thank you for both of your responses! @emilianoeheyns, would I have to manually define each of these keys? Like starting from "Paper 1 Title" citekey_paper1 "Paper 1 Title" citekeypaper1 "Paper 1 Title" cite_key_paper_1 Would I e.g. copy cite_key…

Hi @adamsmith thanks for the response! When I say "folder" I did mean collection. I want to create a Master collection that has all the items (let's call them papers) from all the other collections (let's call them Project collections). So within e…

Ah it looks like the listing order is the same. That is, if a duplicate is listed first in the center pane, it is also the version that is listed first in the right pane
-
Thank you, @adamsmith ! I now can see the colored tag in the center pane where it lists the titles, but on the right pane where I have to "Choose the version of the item to use as the master item," I don't know which version corresponds to the tagge…

@gernophil Have you tried manually creating a different folder in your file system and then changing the file directory to those folders within Zotero? That's how I solved the problem.
-
Hi @adamsmith, thank you for your response; that's what I wondered. I manually created two separate folders in my file directory, changed the data directory for each profile, and for now it seems to be working!
-
Hi @adamsmith, I have a similar question. I've created multiple profiles and would like to associate them each with a different account (different emails/logins), but when I set up syncing via Preferences -> Sync -> Settings, the profile syncs…
