https://gist.github.com/anonymous/8a478e15c0f4c46bc7b94595f3b0a71d I have a large doc, and its references need to be put in footnotes, according to the template: FirstAuthor et al.: "Title" (journal, year)

Thank you so much for your unbelievably prompt help. So I created a copy of the built-in chicago-note-bibliography.csl, which I named _MC.csl ; I edited that file to read: _MC http://www.zotero.org/styles/_MC The style shows up in Word, and…

@damnation: I edited the tag of my custom style, but I'm not sure what to put as an , since for all my styles, that contains an URL to http://www.zotero.org/styles/... After installing it from the Cite menu under Zotero Preferences, the style now …

Small issue: I've edited my custom style accordingly, and saved it under c:\..\zotero\styles\ However, this new style is not visible under the list of citation styles in Zotero's document preferences (in Word). Zotero appears to simply have over…

thanks, will try that!

Update: It seems that with newly-added citations, the references are formated correctly, according to style settings. It's with the older / existing ones (of which there are many!) that the settings are not followed, at least not with regards to fon…

Thanks, I should be all-clear now!

The based-on style is indeed Normal, but that should still mean that any changes made to the Bibl style are reflected in the text formatting , no? Funnily enough, when I try your suggestion and make the text bold in the style, the change is visible…

placing the cursor in the Zotero bibliography corretly shows the style as "Bibliography"... Word 2016, Zotero 4.0.29.22

OK - thanks!

What I had in mind was to simply have citations stand out more while working collaboratively on a manuscript (e.g., have them all underlined), or on the contrary have them fade in the background (e.g. have them all in light grey). I agree that these…

I guess for the same reason of being able to format all these objects at once (all in-text citations) by modifying a single style to which they all belong rather than seeking them out one by one.
-
Thanks! That seems to be indeed the case, but it is a rather cumbersome workaround to use for future manuscripts *and* does not help with my current one, where citations were just inserted at the cursor, i.e. with the Normal style, and could therefo…

ah good point, thanks!!

OK, so at least there are a few options then on the table. Thank you very much for your helpful reply!

double clicking on an item in the advanced search results does indeed take me to that item in the Library, however Enter does nothing - it would be good if it did the same as double click, or indeed just open the item's attachment

+1 to the OP's suggestion of bibliography hyperlinking, i.e. (if I understood it correctly) having the full reference appear in a tool tip when hovering the mouse over the in-text citation, and being able to click on the in-text citation as a hyperl…

yup, makes sense. Thanks to both.

Version 36 has messed up the custom search engine menu, so I won't be upgrading until (if) they fix it in a newer version. I'll check the troubleshooter, thanks

Firefox is in British English, haven't changed the locale. I don't have a Report ID as this wasn't a crash, just a bug I noticed. It does not occur when adding a new tag to an item, only when pulling up existing tags in the Advanced Search field.
-
Nope. Updated both ffx and Z - still the same.

Wow, a reply after 1 minute, that is great even by adamsmith standards! ;) Many thanks!!

I agree. My dissertation document is also a nightmare to insert extra citations into, and this is now already a big problem, as breaking it down into small documents is just not something I want to do at this stage. Hopefully the infamous 10-second …

thanks, I hope the devs will find the time for this at some point
-
Great workaround, thanks!
-
i see. but why is that a problem since that is how the left hand side search field is functioning?
-
not sure why this would have to add options, as it would simply function in the same way that the other text field that I mention already works in. I personally have my tags hierarchically named, e.g. methods|stats and methods|imaging, and I'd prefe…

related to this, it would also be good for suggestion to pop up when typing tag names not from the beginning but any string from any part of the tag name. This works for the search text field under the tag list (left-hand side), but not when assigni…

sure, no worries, thanks adam
