Windows 10 Home. No, I don't touch anything while waiting for that dialog, which is why it seems to me the fact that it opens behind is probably not intended behavior.

I too find that when pressing Ctrl+Alt+C to add/edit a citation in GDocs, the QuickFormatCitation window opens 'behind', and not 'in front' and so one needs to find that window on the taskbar and click it to continue. Other threads suggested this m…

I actually found the opposite behaviour disruptive, also with the Google Docs plugin: when pressing Ctrl+Alt+C to add/edit a citation, the QuickFormatCitation window, which takes ~5s to appear, only appears as a non-focused window, whereas it would …

Nice, thank you!
-
ah yes, that makes indeed more sense. Thank you!
-
Ah I see, thanks. As for the field shading, I was aware of that as a workaround to highlight Zotero fields while editing a document, but in this case I would need those to be highlighted in the published (PDF) document.

While I'm at it: this relates to an older feature request that AFAIK was not implemented, at least for Zotero's MS Word addon - the ability to display inline citations with a different font size/colour. Using the Visual CSL Editor, I was able to h…

Thanks, that was indeed the variable I needed. And I had forgotten about restarting Zotero - now it works :) Thanks again!

I did not reinstall the style, no. I realised I actually need to customise this style even further, so that it includes journal volume, issue, and pages. Would you be so kind to please tell me how that means the CSL is to be edited? THank you!
-
Did this and restarted word&zotero, but the year is still not displayed in those refs. Edited CSL here: https://pastebin.com/UBVL5V6D
-
sure: https://pastebin.com/8cjSZUc5 this style is modified so as to always show the year, but apparently not in all cases! thanks :)
-
That's good to hear. The API will do for now - thank you!

Also interested to know whether there is now a way to batch-process library items, so as to more quickly homogenise author naming. Until then, one has to manually change all occurrences of e.g. "S. Smith" to "Steve Smith", so that these don't appear…

I disabled extensions one by one, but still the same. However, it was in the end somehow browser-related, as doing this in Firefox worked well. Thanks for your help.

Thanks to both!

@xxtraloud , I am also having to format a proposal with that same annoying EU-required style of citations. DId you in the end find a way to reduce the length of footnotes by avoiding listing details of references that were cited previously? Is it fo…

I also second my initial suggestion :) I am still having to manually check whether I didn't already have the paper, on some imports where I have the feeling of the paper being familiar. Thus, having an automatic heads-up about an existing duplicate …

Another +1 that this feature would be REALLY useful!
-
very nice that such tools exist, thanks!!
-
Ah yes - still useful. Thanks!

I second the usefulness of having Zotero add/edit citations in a way that does not interfere with the "Display for review" (simple/full markup) setting. This is because if one works on a multi-author revision in SimpleMarkup mode, with the workaroun…

Thanks! I thought Chrome updates all of its plugins (including ZC) automatically. I tried updating ZC manually, but saw no option for this. In case 5.0.60 was released in the past 48h or so, then I should see the bug already fixed next time I need t…

@adamsmith : I see, but would the formatting of in-text citations (Zotero fields) in Word not be governed by character/text-level (as opposed to paragraph-level) styles? As far as I understand, the two types of styles can co-exist for any given sect…

Also, another advantage of being able to customise the font/colour of in-text citations, would be that you could also make them appear slightly differently not just on screen but also in print, thus fast-streaming the reading process (again, as Fron…

Got it to work, thank you very much!

Thanks Brenton for this suggestion, which I only noticed more than 2 years after you've posted it :) This is actually a great workaround for a feature I still wish Zotero had: being able to customise in-text citations, in particular make them of a…

Will do, thanks!

Thanks ! I am indeed using local backups for my PDFs (namely, backing up the Storage folder), and relying on Sync for the tags, as I did not find a way to back up tags/collections manually. Perhaps Time Machine could do that on a Mac - I am using Wi…

and upping my own suggestion one year later - still a very much needed feature, I feel, and one which most good softwares are beginning to offer as an option :)

Thank you for taking the idea further, great to see this!
