This problem is back with at least some of the Chicago styles.

before we worry about all the eccentricities of some styles (like Chicago). I'm not convinced this one is an eccentricity. I see that MLA 5 (4.6.17) and Turabian 6 (8.43, 11.24) both address it. (I don't have any other guides handy to check them.) …

how to deal with things like original publication titles, dates, publishers, etc. for translated historical works? Original publication info is a big deal in my work. It's always caused me trouble in Endnote.

bdarcus, see Chicago 15, 17.44-46. Does CSL handle such cases?

Is there an ETA on release of the updated plugin?
-
A few comments. . . First, as mentioned, the ability to have freely formatted text in a note around a citation is already under development. This would be (close to) proposed solution #1 in the original post. This does not address the problem of ha…

Click the Multiple Sources button in the lower left of the pop-up. Is the button there for you? Does it do what you want?

I tried the plugin on Word 2007. I didn't do much but—to my surprise—what little I did worked fine. Once the next release is out (soon?!?), maybe support for Word 2007 won't take too long after all.

With the Word plugin, sometimes you can get out of a pickle by going to File > Properties > Custom and deleting all the Zotero entries. This will force Word and Zotero to re-establish their communications.

I need an in-text version of 'Chicago without bibliography.' See Chicago 15, p. 637. Everything the same as the current Chicago note-based format, but don't force the citation into the note.

gzattler, I'm curious: Did you set a keyboard shortcut so you didn't have to click the add-citation icon? If so, what did you use? Is there some obvious choice that should get put into the released plug-in?

... or still in alpha. :)

Oops. Forgot to mention: Currently, the updated, unreleased plug-in is not upward compatible with the old. As of right now, you'd have to re-enter all your citations.

I have done some work on the Word plug-in, zotero.dot, (though just for Windows) and offered it to the team. It's sitting in the SVN repository (in the trunk), and if you have repository access, you can try it out. An important problem I discovered…

moswell: "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" is a very generic Word VB error. It's not clear that your problem is related to the others here. I suspect you'll need to post more details before the developers know what to do about…

I just tested this on Windows Word 2003 and get the same behavior. I also glanced at the Word plugin code and this part of it appears fine. I think the behavior is by design and follows the recommendation of Chicago 15 16.3. If full publication det…

I have moved this discussion from here to Troubleshooting.

1) For titles, add: Foreign words. This is very common in some disciplines, such as mine, history. Ship names. I'd never have thought of it, but if Chicago says it, it must be so.
-
Oops. That didn't look right. I forgot to HTML-encode my angle brackets. Apologies. That should have said: In the short-term, I am putting and in my titles and have added the following lines to the ZoteroInsertFormattedText function in zotero.do…

Indeed. I was just trying to add to the argument that the "forward-looking and comprehensive approach" needs to involve semantic markup and just recognizing that this all will be, as said, "a tricky issue." In the short-term, I am putting and in …

Chicago Manual of Style 15 discusses these issues at 8.175, 8.184, 8.187, 8.191, 17.58, and 17.157. The issue comes up, as we've noted, with titles within titles and species/genus names, but also foreign words and the names of ships. Chicago makes…

There might be a danger of building too comprehensive a solution on this one. Just handling italics (since super/subscripting is already there with Unicode) would go a long way toward taking a good chunk of EndNote business. Maybe a phased approach …
