I haven't been able to reproduce this. Currently, for me, it deselects if I'm sorting by Date Modified and selects the next item if I'm sorting by Title.

Zotero currently doesn't update the titles of tabs that have been unloaded to save resources. We should be able to address that in a future version.

Does this still happen in Troubleshooting Mode? (Help -> Restart in Troubleshooting Mode...) And make sure that the item you're viewing actually has creators. What are their types? (Author, Editor, Contributor, ...)
