Same problem here. I've had Zotero as an App Tab for ages, but now when I close Firefox, the App Tab disappears. It ends up defeating the purpose of the App Tab option.

Yes! It's alive!! Thank you so much.

I think this is gonna be much better -- you're not even limited to a predefined set of status, or stars, or whatever -- you can basically use any system that matches your workflow!

Good points Joscha. I've seen ZotFile and the way it handles annotations seems like an excellent compromise! Annotations are extracted and added as a note. Zotero already supports everything but the extraction bit. This way annotations are searchea…

I use tags from "*" to "*****" to rate my items, and have 5 saved searches for that. It didn't take much to set up. The only thing missing is to visually distinguish them in the items list, but it seems that colored tags are already implemented and…

No one mentioned Windows yet, but I can see already it's gonna be tricky to do this in a cross-platform way. I use SumatraPDF, it's the most minimalistic viewer out there, and it's open source. Anyway, the problem is that annotations will be embed…

Thanks for implementing this feature! I can't wait for the next release to try it out :)

Windows at least is very liberal with the "read-only" attribute. When trying to overwrite a read-only file, most programs just ask "this is read-only, proceed?". On one hand, files in the storage "belong" to Zotero so it should be able to modify the…

Hm, I had the same problem (which went away a few days ago) and now that I checked, I did have some "read-only" files in storage. This happens because I drag a downloaded PDF to Zotero which is already read-only. If Zotero could uncheck the read-onl…

Ok... I changed my webdav server password in the meanwhile, it seems that it was that action that triggered the re-uploading of the whole library, because now I changed the password back and it's re-uploading again. So: The problem didn't corre…

Hm, the following happened: after the error, I tried to sync again. The error now was "sync still in progress". Intrigued, I restarted firefox, synced again, and Zotero decided to re-upload all my files back to the server. It did that, and then ever…

BTW it only happened to a handful of files, so I can't rule out a virus or a glitch in the filesystem; it's not happening to tons of files anyway. Unfortunately, one of them was a PDF that I added to Zotero.

Thank you, it did auto-correct after a while! The file is certainly not from 1998, but some of my files, for some reason (corruption when downloading? after downloading?), have extremely weird dates. Some of them are from the future! Yes I'm no…

Could you try removing the quotes from the file name? Other than that quick fix, Zotero could try to escape weird characters, like in the URL standard (%XX where XX is the hexadecimal representation of the ANSI character if I'm not mistaken). Fault …

So Zotero is capable of detecting which files are modified in the system, and sync them automatically? I suppose that the "conflict resolution" panel would pop up if files are edited in two places without syncing, which should be avoided anyway; I'm…

in the example above: Economy, macroeconomics, international trade, balance of payments, free trade, France, Germany, usefulness:4/5, likeness:2/5 I know what you're getting at, but I feel it's over-generalizing a bit. See, if you allow "custom" sys…

It's a valid point. But then again, it can be solved in the future when it becomes more of a concern. Right now it's more hypothetical than anything. It's a reality that people are using tags to manage their workflow, and it would be nice if th…

Dan is right, ordering tags is a bit overkill. Just take the first colored tag alphabetically and use that. If you have some high-priority tags just prepend them with an underscore or similar character, and they'll have priority over the others. …

Actually, marking can be done using just tags: I'm thinking of marking items with a tag of * (1 star) to ***** (5 stars) according to their relevance. Then for visualization I'll just need to associate each of those tags with a color or icon. I alre…

+1 on colors based on tags. Zotero is extremely useful as it is, this vote is just in the interest of making navigation even *more* intuitive!

Thank you! That pretty much does it. It would be nice if it was possible to enable this permanently in the options -- so there's your feature request -- but this will work!
