Zotero is getting a generic error when trying to read your database. Have you used Zotero on this computer before? Did you transfer files from another computer?

I'm not sure what drop-down menu you're referring to. The main way you use the Zotero Connector is by clicking the button in your browser toolbar. See No Toolbar Button.

If you're sure about that (i.e., the problem goes away when you disable BBT and comes back when you re-enable it), you should report it to the BBT developer on GitHub.

Assuming it works in a new, empty document, for the existing document, see Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents. I'm not sure what message this is referring to, though. "You have already added a citation" isn't a message in Zotero.
