Another error adding a web page to Zotero: URL: https://alexberenson.substack.com/p/six-recent-covid-deaths-per-the-milwaukee/comments?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=363080&post_id=75302663&isFreemail=false&utm_medium=e…

Apologies! That was the snapshot, which worked by the way. I would like nevertheless not to get the error. This should be what you need: https://alexberenson.substack.com/p/urgent-deaths-are-soaring-in-one/comments?utm_source=substack&utm_medi…

The error I reported a while back appears to have recurred. Here is the url: file:///Users/jerryplotnick/Zotero/storage/2YZJZYTN/comments.html

Terrific. Seems to be working nicely now. Thanks so much, Abe and colleagues.
-
Do bear in mind that most of these Substack webpages are under subscription. So you yourself likely won’t be able to view them, and I’m not sure whether the pages’ being under subscription would affect the ability of Zotero to translate.

Got it. Thanks.

Here's an example link: https://tarahenley.substack.com/p/weekend-reads-37d?utm_source=/inbox&utm_medium=reader2 On doing some further testing, I believe I get failure generally with Substack pages, not just Safari. Practically speaking, i…

Perfect. Thank you.

Thank you, dstillman. The share sheet works perfectly. FYI, I saw the instructions at https://www.zotero.org/downloadbookmarklet. It came up early in a browser search. One other related question: On my Mac, I have for some time been using the exte…

Thanks, I can now confirm what you say. I have since determined that the "user" on my Mac computer was apparently corrupted and was causing both Preview and Adobe Pro not to function correctly. One Apple senior advisor wanted me to delete everything…

Thanks very much, djross3, bwiernik, and adamsmith for all the clarification and advice. I’ll hope for a well-thought-out and robust implementation of more user customization in the hopefully not-too-distant future. If I may add just a couple of th…

I have a question indirectly related to these issues. If do implement these two variables, then I will end up with a file on which I could continue to work later on with all of my Zotero citations intact. What are best practices for sharing Zotero…
-
I say this a very naïve—or at least still relatively inexperienced—user of Zotero, but I have to say that I am quite sympathetic to what djross is saying. There needs to be some way of giving users the best of both worlds: standard features and the …

I think this might be quite useful for me, but I'm starting to get mixed up about who's talking to whom or what I should do. Am I understanding right that there are two ways of setting up variable names in a macro: (1) using an existing name that …

This sounds like a good workaround, djross3. Thanks very much. I agree, that it should work. I've done a very small amount of customization of styles a few month ago and am in fact using a variation on MLA now. In fact, that is a problem for impleme…

Ok, thanks. This is one of the biggest obstacles to having a simple Zotero workflow, so I do hope there is a solution in the future. I agree that for any new feature to work across languages and formatting systems, the syntax of citation styles woul…

Yes, I find them quite hard to understand (particularly "Include parent and child items of matching items") and must sometimes rehearse their exact function. So it's reassuring to know I'm in good company.
-
Well, I seem to have gotten the correct result by unclicking the box "Include parent and child items of matching items." I'm not sure why I had it chosen in the first place. It may be a bug that I got the results I did with that box checked, since t…

Thank you, Adam. Exporting items worked just right. I'm guessing I should never need to export collections if I can't get that feature to work right. I don't know what you mean by "using recursive collections via the hidden preference," so probably…

. . . short title in the citation, of course, only when required to resolve an ambiguity—same author(s).
-
Sorry for the confusion. Yes, that is what I meant. One wants the short title in the citation and the long title in the bibliography item, irrespective of whether there is or isn't an author. It should be fairly easy to reproduce the problem.
-
That suggestion makes sense to me (mind you, as a pre-beginner at csl), but it didn't work, at least the way I implemented it. The capitalization at the beginning didn't take hold. e.g.: Fleck, Ludwik. Genesis and Development of a Scientific Fact.…

MLA is like CMoS as far as sorting titles goes ("a" and "the" at the beginning of a title should be ignored) and so would also benefit by a change to the citation processor.

The code doesn't appear to be visible. You can view it at https://www.dropbox.com/s/fst28l9yrsj8331/translator capitalized.rtf?dl=0

Almost completely. There was one other issue I raised on that long thread near the end. (I came across the issue only later.) When there is both an editor and a translator, the "Translated by" is capitalized even though it appears after a comma ("Au…

Apologies! My confusion. The problem was in Word, and I was looking at an old bibliography that I had neglected to delete, not the automatically generated one. The latter is working as it should.

Thanks for the suggestion. My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro is somewhat antiquated. Preview is simpler and cleaner; I have therefore found it more attractive. But I just loaded the current version of Adobe Reader, and it doesn't seem bad at all on in…

I'm discovering new issues as I work. It appears that authors are no longer being processed correctly either in the bibliography (no et al. for more than two authors). Note that I am, at the suggestion of a respondent, using 5.0 beta. Maybe I should…
-
BTW, the problem seems to be with bibliographic entries only, not citations.
-
Thanks. This is useful knowledge. Hopefully, then, the issues with Preview notes not showing in Adobe are, like the rest, bugs rather than a deviation from the PDF standard.
