Yes, the performance will be significantly improved later this year.
-
We'll fix that. Thanks for reporting.
-
Why exactly do you want to hide them? Something like this is planned.
-
It's definitely not perfect and the issues varies between different PDF viewers. I probably know why this specific case performs better in some other PDF viewers — they are regrouping characters into words, lines and paragraphs and re-generating a…

It's unlikely that Zotero will get better at highlighting OCRed PDF text. There are too many ways how text layer can be messed up and therefore there is no point in doing that. The only rational solution is to re-OCR those PDFs. Just making a scre…

We are more or less aware of the issue, but it would be great, if you could send us example PDF files with the issues that you encounter. You can send them to support@zotero.org, also including a link to this thread.
-
We'll try to fix this.
-
Some good points here! I can reproduce 1) and 9). Could you send a screenshot for 2)?
-
It does nothing when you click on a page number, because it's reserved for double clicking to open page number editing popup.
-
You mean you can return back to highlight/image annotation, but there isn't a way to do that for note annotation?
-
We are aware about this behaviour, but re-focusing annotation, each time when it's clicked in the sidebar, also has downsides. You can unselect the annotation by clicking anywhere on a PDF page and then click the annotation again.
-
Not yet, but we probably should.
-
It should be fixed in 6.0.10-beta already.
-
The issue will be fixed later this year, when we upgrade our underlying PDF reader engine (PDF.js).
-
Could you send us the PDF file to support@zotero.org also including a link to this thread? Also please describe how to locate the specific part of the PDF file that is causing the problems.
-
Does it help if you disable hardware acceleration?
-
Is there anything untypical with your computer software or hardware configuration?
-
Does restarting Zotero or the device fixes it?
-
Which OS and version do you use?
-
This specific text truncation issue will be fixed in the next update. (It is caused by poor OCR software mapping some glyphs to NULL and therefore breaking strings).
-
I mean PDF reader already tries to scroll to specific page and point, but it "physically" can't scroll more than the scrollbars allow. Can you manually scroll to the point you want?
-
I get "a t m id nigh t that im plies th a t prayer", which is of course poorly extracted, but still it doesn't stop at "implies". Which OS and Zotero version do you have?
-
@jcpeckham The PDF file seems to be in a really poor quality, but I still can't reproduce your issue. Can you tell me which specific part of the text, in the PDF that you sent to us, performs worse than with ZotFile?
-
For technical reasons. But we might reconsider that in future. Why you don't want quotation marks?
-
The custom note template is interfering here. Highlights must have quotation marks to remain active.
-
@jcpeckham We can't reproduce this. Could you send an example PDF where that issue appears? You can send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
-
It should be mostly fixed in the next update.
-
It should scroll precisely to the exact point, except in those cases when scrolling is impossible — it's the last page or zoomed out too much.
-
@"Andrew Kahrl" Could you make screenshots that include full Zotero window? Before and after the issue. The current screenshots are missing the bottom part of Zotero window, and I need to make sure that nothing overflows.
-
Ok, I was able to reproduce the issue, but only on Windows.
